On3 released its weekly Heisman trophy poll.  On3’s national analysts — Andy Staples, Ari Wasserman, Chris Low, Brett McMurphy, Pete Nakos, JD PicKell, and Charles Power — submit ballots ranking their top 10 Heisman contenders. Points are awarded 10 for first place, nine for second, and so on.

  1.  Fernando 65 pts.
  2. Simpson 58
  3. Sayin 57
  4. Reed 38
  5. Pavia 36

Agree with this, Fernando looks good right now but I would not be surprised if any of those top 3 win.

Is the voting before or after the conference championships?

Ohio State isn’t really vulnerable to anything on defense; they give up like 80 yards a game on the ground. It’s one of the best defenses in college football this year and probably in the last 10. Assuming we play them in Indy, we’ll need our best game of the year.

With a break from the Football Gods sprinkled in here or there as well. It'll be hands down the toughest opponent (including CFP opponents) IUFB will play the entire year. They're the real deal.

The silver lining though, our D isn't too bad either. If healthy, Ponds will neutralize weapons they're used to using.

Yeah , I just think we’re better. I think while their players are studs there’s chinks that our coaching staff will expose. Not a knock on Ohio State I just think if we are healthy we can and will beat them. Felt this way about Oregon as well ( not the same quality but many thought they’d beat us). I was more afraid of Iowa because Iowa is a specific team that neutralizes our specific strengths ( excellent fundamentals). Penn State scared me most because I felt they had a combination of power/ athleticism/ and more depth on defense than anyone in the big ten. I don’t know. I’m not as scared that’s all.

just my opinion. That’s all it is

Heisman should not be about who is on the better team.

I didn’t mean to infer the winning team would also get the Heisman but rather that the BT. Championship game  is a contest  played in front of a ton of eyeballs showcasing  how each of the two QB played against the competition provided by the #1 and #2 teams. A great performance in such a high profile game could/will influence at least a few voters.

Fernando could help his case by playing great in a close loss and the same goes for Sayin (and both will have to overcome the SEC auto-votes for Simpson).

For me it depends on the health of our OL.

If the OL is not intact Fernando will be under pressure all day while our running game will be neutralized.

OL not intact = no Evans?  Is that what you mean?

Even if it is intact Fernando will be under pressure all day. I think people are somehow underestimating how good OSU is. I hate that fan base and program with a passion that consumes my soul but they are the best team in CFB this year.

No it shouldn't but there's also some voters who will consciously or unconsciously penalize Fernando simply because they have the preconceived impression about IU and football.

Probably so. But I think there are other voters who would choose Mendoza because it's a cool story versus giving it to someone like Sayin that benefits from having a dominant supporting cast.

I sadly agree on all points. OSU's defense is the single best unit (offense or defense) in the nation this season. Likely for the last few years. Their offense is just good, but that D is great. I know it's fun to harass them about Michigan owning them, but the Wolverine offense is dog-crap. No way they pull it out this year. For IU to win they'll have to play better than they did against Iowa, Oregon and definitely Penn St.
