Yes, agree. So how is that an "Oof" ?

I get he doesn't wow anyone but like you said they can't all be starters...

Seems like a kid who will play a limited role and help build a strong culture. That's a good thing IMO.

Yup. A depth piece for the National Champions will now be a depth piece in Bloomington. I fail to see how that’s not good. Obviously a different player, but if he’s Anthony Walker in that he can give you useful minutes when he’s needed and a positive locker room presence when he’s not that’s a very nice piece of the puzzle.

Playing time dwindled as the season progressed. Including DNP in games that mattered the most. Phrasing it the way you did isn’t really accurate.

You do realize that the DNPs were because he had an ankle injury that he sustained on February 11th and it got reaggraviated again when trying to return?

He didn't play from February 11th on except for one sole minute to run the clock out in a sweet sixteen game.  Your statement that he got DNP's in 'games that mattered the most'....THAT'S not accurate.

I didn’t know if we would get him or not, but Alexis was a guy I was hoping we would land. I am very excited about this pick up and hope we can get either Sorber or Miller..that would be downright awesome!

Idk. He’s a undersized center. Doesn’t really have stretch 4 potential. The B1G isn’t kind to undersized centers imo. The Greek kid as a stretch 4. Then get 2 Centers. Miller and Curtis. Or Miller and Federico. I wish we could have recruited a better 5 overall, however Bailey might be the starting 5 in which case it changes some things. I also realize only about 9-10 will play and Alexis might not be one of those guys. In which case it doesn’t matter. I feel that way about a couple of our additions.

I don't know what you were expecting out of the 5 spot, especially offensively, given the remaining personnel? You were never going to get a high usage center with DeVries, Wilkerson, etc....it's not needed. With Alexis signed, get Federiko, and you can count on 35 solid minutes of defending and rim protection out of the 5 spot. Can play Bailey at the 5 in spurts if you need offense.

It sounds like we're in bad shape in the frontcourt if Alexis plays any bigger role than say Peyton Sparks did. Just a spot player here and there.

10-15 mpg seems appropriate. He's moves much better than Sparks and is a lot better defensively. Anything you get from him offensively is a luxury, should never be an instance where he is on the court and scoring around him is a concern.

Based on the profile of Alexis, he is very much unlikely to make it in the NBA.  G-League player maybe but who knows.  He got a national championship this past season, what most kids are chasing at a collegiate level next to trying to make it to the highest level in the NBA.  Coming to IU, Alexis probably is making a little more money than had he of stayed at Florida, gets to play at a more decorated university and more basketball history than Florida AND brings that championship experience to a team that is in its first year of a rebuild and needs this experience.  To me, sure Alexis may get some spot minutes BUT his experience at the highest level winning a championship is the move I see here.

Maybe he was buried on the depth chart at Florida, if that is the case so be it BUT a few minutes off of the bench given his experience at the highest level, championship pedigree AND an above average % rebounder can't hurt in those spot minutes when we are shooting 25+ three pointers per game or even rebounding on the defensive end

there are zero kids 25 yrs and younger than believe we are a better basketball school than UF

Alexis probably came here because UF had already recruited over him, tbh.

right now in present time sure, but history would have IU as more the more decorated basketball program, not just operating in a silo from the past say 10-15 years

I think more Anthony Walker, but hopefully a bit less minutes than he got.

You’ve got 40 minutes to fill at either spot. Bailey and Devries will play the bulk. I do not believe Alexis was brought in to play their immediate backup.

4: Devries (30ish), Bailey (10)

5: PortalBig (20ish), Bailey (15)

That leaves 5 minutes left for Alexis. I think the above minutes allocation is very likely so there truly aren’t many minutes left unless we do not get another quality big. In that case we may be a little thin and he plays more.

What's confusing? He's not a 30+ mpg player in the B10. He was barely a 30 mpg player on a terrible A10 team. Brings a lot offensively, he gives you next to nothing defensively. IU isn't good enough defensively 1-4 for him to play the bulk of his minutes at the 5. And if he is playing the bulk of his minutes at the 5, it'd be an equal rotation with someone like Miller or Federiko....I could live with that.

If only there were numbers that existed between 25 and 30..........

Right.  If the outside shooting pans out anything near what the numbers indicate IU will need only a solid 5 who can rebound, move the ball, and do the intangibles.  Daryl Thomas, Dean Garrett, or even a Noah Vonleh or Jared Odle type production will suffice if the scoring comes from anywhere else.  Go Hoosiers !!!

Not to doubt Stu's son, but it appears Alexis had a block rate of 5.5% last year (which is pretty good) and was supposedly Top 40 in block rate at Chattanooga the year prior. Not saying he's a hardcore rim protector but it would appear that he's no slouch in that department.

Throw in his offensive rebounding rate as well as his put-back ability and I can definitely see how he fits what DeVries appears to be constructing.

Alexis played a ton more during cupcake season for UF, and the very good block rate was in a much lower tier conference.
