Hoosierfanyuh Posted April 9 Posted April 9 On the assistant coaching front, there is some soft chatter things aren't totally dead with IU and Alabama assistant Preston Murphy. It sounds unlikely at this point in time that IU adds Achoki Moikobu from Texas Tech or Chris Capko from SMU, but there are options in the works behind the scenes. I still think IU will be fine on assistant coaches in time. Stevenson to portal and soft Murphy chatter J34 and lillurk 2 Quote
go iu bb Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Rabby says things aren't totally dead as far as getting Murphy. He also says it looks unlikely for Moikobu and Capko. I'm not sad at missing out on Capko since I think the next 2 assistants should be black. Diversity is needed in the staff at this point. HoosierHoopster 1 Quote

I think there is way too much hand wringing over things we know nothing about . It is April 9th. There is nothing objective in any of the negative observations right now. It is being negative for the sake of being negative. Many seem to be wired that way. The man has been on the job for a few days. He is assembling a staff and recruiting players. When things play out there will be plenty of time to be negative and critical of things. In the meantime go for a walk or read a good book. hoosierbgh, IUHoosierJoe, Scotty R and 4 others 6 1 Quote

All things are true. I am concerned about the way certain things have gone but still have hope all will work out. I just hope dd gets a great staff and has a great next season. I totally get your point and generally agree. However, I agree with the original poster. The player pool is predominately African American. Having a staff member or 2 that are highly qualified and also from the same cultural upbringing as most college players is a smart move. AkronHoosier, lillurk, Chris007 and 4 others 7 Quote

It really is a must IMO. Have to get someone who relates to the kids the most. They want to be coached and around someone who looks like them. lillurk, MemphisHoosier, skhoosier2 and 4 others 7 Quote

We tried that approach the last 4 years, with zero results. Arguably, over the last half of the season, our 3 best players were white. Probably over 90% of players could care less what color their coaches are. jonz44, MikeRoberts, TrueHoosier62 and 2 others 4 1 Quote
