Capt. Crimson Posted March 19 Posted March 19 11 hours ago, cleeter said: Sorry for the long post. But just want to give my two cents for anyone who cares. And you probably shouldn’t. Everyone can be disappointed, but Dolson couldn’t just say “hey (insert coach name here) come coach IU” and they just come here. Some people don’t want to leave cushy jobs. Some people don’t want the lights. NIL has changed everything. I’m not thrilled with the hire though. But I think it’s just the fact that NIL plays a big part. Used to be easy to get people to come to a big name school. But with NIL, coaching making boat loads of money, it’s hard to get big coaches to leave their cushy jobs. Like look at UL and UK last year. Pope and Kelsey were not their first options? Just a different world than it was 10 years ago. But We got a guy from a P5 conference guy that WANTS IU, that’s WANTS the pressure. Like him or not, you can do whatever. I just say we rally behind him and the team and give them a chance. Every coach started somewhere small and had to make a name for themselves. Let’s hope Darian is the next one to do that. Kentucky - BYU coach Louisville - Charleston coach Duke - Assistant UNC - assistant Villanova - assistant UCLA - Cincinnati coach Alabama - Buffalo Coach (oats) Tennessee - Milwaukee Coach (Pearl) Florida - San Francisco Coach Texas Texh - North Texas Iowa St - UNLV coach Not every school just get a proven P5 guy. Sometimes people do their job and hire the right guy. Let’s hope Dolson just did that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk One major thing to point out with Otz and Iowa state is that he had a long history with Iowa St. before going to UNLV. thebigweave and Pagoda 2 Quote

But with him only being at WV for one year, it makes me nervous that he will be looking for greener pastures from here as well. An underrated aspect to this? There literally are not very many pastures greener than IU for men's basketball. We have to remember that we're literally at the top of the food chain in terms of relevant support. I thought some of us were friends but that didn't end up being the case. But Dolson got someone he really wanted and don't believe anyone who says this was his 5th choice. DeVries was a name Scott liked since January just like McCollum I understand your position. So much smug condescension from numerous posters would be difficult to endure. I for one appreciate the info you and a few others shared (not the obvious johnny-come-lately trolls who were pretty obvious) far more than the self flaggelating haters. Anyone with a grain of sense knew that anything non-official was subject to change or flat incorrect. Some of us were just hoping to be wowed and were somewhat letdown. I have no predictions on how well DD will do. I'm not pessimistic or overly optimistic but will wait and see how things develop. I'm sure he'll be a significant improvement over the proxy coach we've had for the past four seasons. Hopefully you and others won't be in this position again. It goes against everything we've ever heard of Brad's character. Anyone feeding that line is not a credible source, IMO. We are hearing from non-IU sources that Dolson has been in communication with DeVries for weeks, if not since the Battle for Atlantis. That strikes me as much more credible than the idea that Brad was in the bag until Sunday. I don't see how anyone at this point wouldn't be questioning their sources re Brad, after the way the last two searches turned out. Whatever info people were getting clearly wasn't reliable. I take offense. There have been 3 people since January. @IUGRAD06 has said many times that McCollum started talking to Dolson in January. Which was true, and so did DeVries. The date to find the new coach was always March 17. Napleshoosier, IUGRAD06, AZ Hoosier and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Agree here. I saw a YouTube video of him being interviewed yesterday on an Engineering Culture channel. He spoke of the importance of choosing players who fit the culture of the program first and foremost. I think we can all agree that Woody seemed really scattershot in this regard and just seemed to get whoever was highly ranked and didn't seem to cultivate relationships long enough to ascertain whether they would be a good fit or not. I’ve seen some WVU fans clamor for Frazier to get the head coaching job. Yeah but I think after there 3rd coaching search in 21 months they may go the successful coach protégé route and hire Jerrod Calhoun from Utah State. He was on Huggins staff at UC as a student assistant and then as an assistant coach at WVU for 5 years. BUT I could also see them worrying about UC opening up next year if Wes Miller gets canned and he dips after a year like DeVries. So they may try to make him committ to a massive buy out they know UC can't afford so maybe Calhoun stays put for another year. There situation is WILD thebigweave 1 Quote

People in WV wouldn't leave for millions more? The whole thing comes off as extremely butthurt BS. My dad was a coal miner here in SW Indiana, and I can tell you for a fact that we have blue collar workers here also. And I can assure you that if you gave any of them over a million $$ raise, they would move also. Please, if he can put a team on the floor that works hard and wins, we will be fine. go iu bb 1 Quote

Yea. I’m not going to get too high or two low on what happens over the next month. I would like to see him show some recruiting chops — could be landing some top portal guys or flipping a Mullins/Haralson — I’ve got nothing specific in mind but you know what I mean. He’s got a $10-12M WAR CHEST so I would like to win some battles and I think he will. Edit: Also I want shooters after the last eight years I demand shooters.
