go iu bb Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Since there is a rumor from the Texas 247 site Trilly Discord in the coaching candidate thread that Scott Drew will be the next IU coach, I guess I'll start a thread just for him. He would be a home run hire, imo. Took over a Baylor program that was in a terrible place and hadn't been historically good and not only turned them into a consistent winner, but won a National Championship there. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-coaching-candidate-profile-scott-drew/ https://www.insidethehall.com/2025/02/21/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-profile-scott-drew/ https://www.crimsonquarry.com/2025/2/24/24370605/indiana-basketball-coaching-search-scott-drew I personally have my doubts since he turned down UK and UL just a year ago. Maybe being from Indiana will be enough to change his (or his wife's) mind. I guess we'll see. Juwan Moye, RoadRage, Pagoda and 2 others 5 Quote

Stuhoo Posted February 24 Posted February 24 If I had to put money on a candidate without odds, at this point Scott Drew would be where I would put my money. I would also 1,000,000% take "the field" over any two candidates at this point. Demo and moyemayhem 2 Quote

AKHoosier Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Didn't realize he's only 54. He seems older, probably because he's been at Baylor forever. I would be good with Drew, plenty of good years left in him. Only thing I worry about is if he's still got that fire and energy to win a championship now that he's won one. Does he feel like he has something to prove still? Maybe he feels like he needs a change of scenery now? He did seriously consider UK last year so he's clearly not against leaving. Pagoda, Kentuckysucks, Jeff Flabjohns and 1 other 4 Quote
HoosierHoopster Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I don't see it. But yes, a home run hire if it were to happen. He's up there with Otz for me Jeff Flabjohns, Home Jersey and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote
Demo Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Kind of tough to see it, but if it’s possible the timing would certainly make sense. He’ll lose Edgecombe for sure. He’ll lose Roach and Ormier. He’s only got a 1 man class right now, even if the kid is really good. So it’s not like he’d be leaving a no doubt NC contender. HoosierHoopster, str8baller and Home Jersey 3 Quote
Popular Post ISP Posted February 24 Popular Post Posted February 24 The rumor originated from Gerry Hamilton at OnTexasFootball.com. Someone on Trilly's chat has a mutual contact that is reaching out to see if they can get more info from him. Essentially what he said is that on 2/14 he heard Drew to IU is basically agreed upon and McCaseland will be going to Baylor. He followed up last Wednesday saying he is still hearing the same. "Hearing" from a coach in Texas. It is a paid site otherwise I'd post the screenshots, but you can go to the site to read them yourselves. FWIW, his previous prediction in that thread was incorrect regarding who he heard Miami was targeting.. Demo, Kentuckysucks, ALASKA HOOSIER and 5 others 4 4 Quote

He landed 3 of the top 33 players in the Rivals 150 for 2024 and that's at Baylor. I've always thought he's a slightly above average coach but an elite recruiter. We could do a ton worse. go iu bb, ALASKA HOOSIER and 8bucks 3 Quote
Ryno6284 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 For some reason Scott Drew just doesn’t do it for me! I know I’m in the minority here, but I just don’t know what it is. BA47591, DChoosier, moyemayhem and 4 others 5 2 Quote

He definitely loves his guards. We'd see a different style of basketball than we are accustomed too. Pagoda, moyemayhem, Stuhoo and 7 others 10 Quote
MTB22 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I'll be honest, if it's Scott Drew my damn near 50 years of supporting IUBB probably ends. The guy is just a totally cringe worthy individual. And before anyone starts, it's not his religion, it's the way he acts behind the scenes while still "hiding" behind his faith. Remember the Hanner stuff? It's been years since I have, but I heard stories about him from AAU coaches that were very off-putting to say the least. I remember the crap he tried to pull with RMK...still would have loved to watch him soil himself when Knight tracked him down. Just in general, seems like a very odd insincere person and I just don't think I could get behind him. Jeff Flabjohns 1 Quote

Though I suspect after his intro presser I would get all excited and optimistic as I always do with a new coach. Willson Posted February 24 Posted February 24 (edited) Great recruiter....his down years would be considered good seasons at iu(the past 20 years). 5 seasons in a row with a 3 seed or better in the tourney. Hasn't happened at iu since 2013! Would be a gigantic hire Edited February 24 by Willson Home Jersey, Jeff Flabjohns, go iu bb and 3 others 6 Quote
