Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Chattanooga - Saturday, 12.21.24 @ Noon on BTB

Recommended Posts

Eye test. This team doesn’t pass it. Disjointed. No aggressiveness on O or D.

I was hoping to see some run and gun stuff with Rice but he’s broken.

Woodson’s “coaching” will do that.

Maybe at NW or Washington and even then it may be a point or two tops.

Could be but NW lost by 1 at Iowa and beat Illinois at home. They are pretty good. I don’t have much faith we will get that one on the road.

I agree with everything except I’m not so sure we are a bubble team. I looked at the schedule and see a possible 1-6 seven game stretch and have a hard time seeing more than 2 road wins (maybe 1).
The seemingly disinterested part is hard to take. The players almost have “this isn’t going to work” body language .

We will see.

3 consecutive years we had one of those stretches. I think we'll hover around .500 in the conference and finish 8-12.

FORTY-FIVE SECONDS into his presser, it's "gotta get 'em over the hump" again... sheesh.

He’s a dinosaur that fails to adjust to modern basketball.

They hadn't been announcing him lately so I assumed they did not today.

On radio, they announced him after the starting lineup. There wasn't much of a crowd to figure out a reaction either way. Add to that during winter break, a good chunk of those there are families that normally don't get the chance to go when school is open and of course the "true fans". Wait till the students are back and the marquee opponents arrive.

Just got home from the game, Woody was introduced after the starting line up and received pretty good applause considering there couldn't have been more than about 7,000 in attendance.  But students are on break, cheers will turn to boos when they return.

This team is very hard to watch, little to no scheme, organization, or movement on offense, no urgency or intensity on defense.  Chattanooga had no business being in this game, and yet, with 2 minutes to go they could very easily have won if they hit the open threes they were getting.

Is it possible that he is one of those decommissioned  Chuck E Cheese animatronic band members repurposed with a tape recorder playing on loop?  That would explain  a lot.

Ok, I realize that some of this stuff has been said ad nausea. But damn, a SoCon team just came into Assembly Hall and played with us for 40 minutes and this is after we've had a week off. Was hoping so bad that we would come out, look sharp and take no prisoners but no it was opposite of that. It looks like some of these guys could care less if they play or not.

Here are the things that I see and I do not consider myself Phil Jackson. First and foremost, Lack of Leadership (there's nothing there). Our defense, we over help and switch everything so we're constantly out of position or in a scramble and it's god awful guys. Speaking of defense, 2 of our best offensive players are by far our worst defenders (MR-MM).

To the offensive side. I know there were only 10-11 turnovers today but damn we just do not value the basketball. Players don't cut with purpose. The screens they set are just lazy. Could probably thank mostly our coaching for this. We definitely do not play for one another which leads to a ton of bad shots.

One last thing. I know we won the rebound battle today but this is another thing we are awful at, IMO. Rebounding is mostly effort guys and I don't see effort. I see alot of low basketball IQ players and bad coaching. It's obvious that the Malik/Ballo experiment is NOT WORKING. However, our jackass of a head coach is too stubborn to change that. I mean it's not like this season is lost, ton of basketball left to play but these guys look like they could care less. And that's damn near everyone of them. We keep this up, we won't get in the B1G tourney much less the NCAA's
