Last year we were in close games with a bunch of 200ish+ teams and then blown out by anyone good. That hurt. A couple lackluster wins doesn’t hurt when you mix in some good ones too. Yep. UNC Greensboro is at 168 on Pom. The wins we were getting last year including a couple of nail biters against 300ish teams. This game in no way compares to a game like we had against Army last year. Through four games, IU has averaged winning by 20 points against teams that are at 72, 168, 269, and 318. That's okay. FWIW, I believe in the four games IU was favored by an average of 21 points. cchuntsman, str8baller and HoosierHoopster 3 Quote

rcbowla Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 This is a talented roster but a mediocre to not good team. Why is that? The amount of missed block outs gets us beat by 16 against a good opponent. I am so sick of the same problems every damn year, game and half. Clearly I have an axe to grind with Woodson but man.... RaceToTheTop Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I mentioned before the game that although UNC Greensboro was undersized, they had been rebounding well. They were +7 against Florida Gulf Coast and -2 against SMU. IU didn't rebound well today, but it was +5 IU. Have to do a better job at blocking out on long rebounds. UNC G took 32 threes today and there were a lot of long rebounds coming out. That's not just on the bigs blocking out -- guards have to be aware of the long caroms as well. My takeaways from some individual performances: Galloway played the worst game I've seen from him in memory. Tucker was a man and wanted the ball. Rice played well but did have too many turnovers. Carlyle is a hell of an on ball defender but offensively he's simply not there. I wish they would get him going to the rim more. Off night for MM but he was due for one of those. IU continues hitting their free throws which is a departure from the last few years. Woodson.must.stop.the.first.half.mass.subs. I have never had an issue with Hummel announcing IU games but thought that tonight he was openly taking delight when IU struggled. Don't know how many times he said 'IU was lucky there' if UNC G missed an open shot.....but never said anything of that nature if IU missed one. cybergates, DougWil, HoosierHoopster and 1 other 4 Quote

Woodson completely killed the flow we’d established. it is a game he could afford to do that, to give a second unit run to try to develop some game chemistry— that’s my glass half full thinking. My glass half empty thinking is just like, Damn Woodson, you suck This team shouldn’t go past playing 8 people. Starters + Galloway, Tucker and Goode. There is no reason to go beyond unless there’s an injury Quote

spe317 Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 The more I see the more I can’t help but ponder why I don’t enjoy this “style” of ball. Even for the last couple of years. This style of play, atmosphere, mojo, whatever you want to call it is too reminiscent of pro-ball. Less about the sum of parts being great and more about individual performances carrying the group. Frustrating. JerryYeagley23 and Parakeet Jones 2 Quote

I completely agree. The mass subbing is a disaster. Anything short than a second weekend trip is a failure with this talent. WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Waited a week and had to do like 6 root canals since IUBB took the court and this was the performance we get? LolDisjointed, confused, poor communication, never boxing out. Just ugly offense in general. I do enjoy the random acts of talent, tonight by Rice and Tucker. Reneau and Gallo had about as bad of games as I can recall. I don’t know. We won. I should be happy, but this the same Woodson type performances I’ve become accustomed to. Still no pace on offense. Caught myself fast forwarding the game. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Whoozhers, 8bucks, SlammySammy and 2 others 5 Quote
