cthomas Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Given the number of new players I'm not too unhappy with the way we played. CCC is obviously less than pleased with the product on the field. I see a lot of room to improve, but I feel much better than I did last year. Home Jersey, Dave from Dayton and thebigweave 3 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 May not really see much more next Friday night against Western Illinois. They got waxed 54-15 by Northern Illinois with 298 yards of total offense while giving up 706. NIU QB was 23-29 and 394 passing yards. It should be a laugher. Was a little disappointed tbh but I had to listen vs watch the game. Seemed our D was far better than what I could tell from listening to the broadcast. Offense seems to have too many veterans to just be meh so hopefully it was just a first game. VPC 1 Quote
IUFootballHappyHappyJoyJoy Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 The offense feels like it's going to struggle and there were too many penalties. But the defense was very good and special teams didn't make any huge mistakes. So a successful outing. Hoosierfan2017 1 Quote

DChoosier Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 It was an ok but not great performance. The disappointing but not surprising thing to me, and maybe it was just the camera angles, was the huge number of people that left at halftime. It seems to be a tradition that I just don’t understand. Stuhoo, triple, jmsgws and 1 other 4 Quote

This is one of my biggest fears. Through the years the team we saw the first game was pretty much the same team we saw the last game. I know, I know... different coach. Quote

On Friday we may not learn a lot more about the team because the competition is really bad. Coach Cig and the team learned a lot yesterday. There's lots to fix. Penalties, long passes, 2nd half execution... I thought that the offensive line did a better than average job in the first half. They opened a few holes and protected the QB. The running backs stood out and there is evidence that they are deep. But the competition was not deep in spots. The play calling was conservative. Coaches did not want to show any special plays when they are not needed. The jury is still out...but Coach Cig is the real deal. And he was not happy in the 2nd half. He is going to be kicking some butts this week. Napleshoosier and thebigweave 2 Quote

They’re starting to change things for the better and when they finally sack up and stick to getting rid of that, the football gods will smile on Bloomington. Quote
Lebowski Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Blowout win and yet it felt like the offense was really sloppy for about half of the game. They probably or should have scored a couple more times at least. The front five has to get better at pass protection. Rourke was pressured a lot and some how managed to only get sacked twice. Having said that, they got 400+ yards against an FBS opponent, they did that once last year, so they already matched that. It was their best 1qtr against an FBS opponent in almost 2 years. And they had more yards and first downs against any FBS opponent last year. Defense is solid, 4 sacks, 1 takeaway, and 8 tackles for loss. They were flying around to the ball. A nice athletic unit. They're good there. Guys not discussed during the off season stepped up as well. I'm concerned about our FG range. Looked like Coach Cig might not have confidence in 40+ yard attempts. Who knows. thebigweave 1 Quote

Having to get to 40-45 yard range would be a big issue. thebigweave, lillurk and Lebowski 3 Quote
