Year one was a disaster compared to other year one coaches the previous cycle because of staffing. There should be no part of our fan base now that doesn't understand that now. We had visits initially and then the word got put that it was Drew, Nic and DD sitting in the players lounge working off a coffee table because Woody still jad his sh7t in the coaches office. We had no one that could call an agent, no one that had recruits they were working from previous stops. That's why we were loaded with "maybes". 

Flush year one. If next years team isn't a mean of Pope, May, Kelsey's year one, then gather the torches and pitchforks. 

I personally don't think a coach at any level could've done better with what was probably the second or third crappiest roster in my half a century of watching IU.  

Staffs get talent to fit the scheme and culture of the boss. DD needs 

I don’t disagree that year 1 portal recruiting was a challenge due to some things not in play now. Missing on initial assistants who may have brought a player or two only to hire who we got late. That makes some sense as to why we had a somewhat meh result. 
 

There was another recruiting window however that we also seem to forget. For the summer HS recruiting period we had all our coaches and there were reports (from Rabby and Snow I believe) who commented on how IU was much more active than other schools during this recruiting period. For the effort we put in here, targeting many 5 start kids, we basically missed on all. You could argue that we hit on Branham but he wasn’t a 5* when he committed. 
 

I don’t mind the kids we have but they were not the high end targets we spent a lot of time on. They appear to be good support players for whenever we land high end starters.  Not a bad group but to me it shows that for a second recruiting window we failed to attract the top targets. 
 

This next recruiting window seems critical. Staff is full. Have additional help from an NBA GM. I can’t tell you who the staff should target by name but the result needs to be to 1) build a team for the tournament and 2) get some momentum for 2027

He is certainly that. We'd have to hope his efficiency numbers improve a bit with better teammates, and not needing to score 20+ every night.

Can anybody who watched ND tell me how he was defensively?

I’d put him in the good to very good category. Excellent on ball, high IQ, and plays physical for his size, although his size is what I feel keeps him from being elite. But that’s picking nits. He’ll bring it on both ends

By the way y’all; while I hope he pops, I most certainly have not seen any sign of anything official for Burton to IU.

Rod Clark recruited JP Estrella and Bishop Boswell didn't he? Added to Carr's Fru and Rooths with Burton and/or Haralson wouldn't be a bad haul?

I really like Boswell at the 2 as well. Hes a physical defender that can do a bit of everything. 

im cautiously optimistic. I think DD and staff are aware of the temperature and understand the importance. I remember Dolson making the point during last years presser that DD had experience with quick turnarounds and roster building. Add Carr #1 to specifically concentrate on talent acquisition and one would have to believe a repeat of roster one will be unacceptable.  There should be 3 or 4 major acquisitions before the name Sam Orme gets brought up.

Started following the guy about 10 days ago. He’s gotten some stuff right. Fair to assume if this is true we can write off Orme because they’re basically the exact same kid.
