Transfer Portal w IU Interest

True, but no caps will destroy the game in my opinion! Talent was spread out before on a number of factors, quality of the program, quality of the education, locale, facilities, and I'm sure we can all think of a few others. But at least under that system you had some level of parity. Without caps, the elite programs will just have too much of an advantage. Every year in the NCAA Tournament we see smaller schools actually compete and win against even elite programs....that is not going to be happening much longer, in fact we are already starting to see less upsets. I think the caps could still be set high enough where the more historically elite programs would still have an advantage, but smaller schools with less resources would still have a shot at landing a few top players. Just my opinion, but I just hate to see the game ruined and to me, no caps ruins the game, at least without major changes, turning into basically semi-pro basketball, which maybe is what it has already become.

Cap won’t work. If there is a cap it will be violated within 2 seconds by UNC, UK etc and the NCAA won’t do ANYTHING about it.

The fact that the portal allows guys to transfer every single year, without sitting out, has really hurt the small schools. A lot of dudes didn’t want to sit for a year in the past but now anything goes.

Any chance Enright is close to as good as Ole Miss’ Pedulla?

He has looked much better in this tourney than he did during SEC play! Really good player non the less.

Season stats Padilla didn’t score as much as he has in the tournament and his assists in more minutes a game aren’t even close, lol.

Lol Pedulla avged 15p 4a 4r and shot 40.7% from 3 in the SEC.. they aren't close.

But.. you asked the question right?

I didn’t watch much Ole Miss this year but did see a lot of DePaul games. Enright isn’t very good, might be ok as a backup PG but I wouldn’t want him as IUs starter.

Finally. What are we doing here? It hasn’t happened yet. We could still recalibrate. I don’t know how you watch college basketball all year and chose this as your option at PG. I’m a broken record I know, but I’m hoping to save the new staff on this one, one way or another.

Ps-spots 10-13 would be fine. But if he’s playing significant minutes we aren’t a top 10 team or maybe not even a top 25 team. Talent gap is LARGE.

We do have to fill out 13 scholarships and not everyone is going to be starters. No one has said Enright should be starting but he would be coming off the bench for 15 minutes a games. Also not every player needs to be a scorer but you need some guys who knows their roles and play in that role well.

I am not going to sweat it yet.  We literally lost every single player off last year's team.  I expect several names that pop upd to be underwhelming on paper because it is going to be a little difficult to convince more exciting names to come and be role players.

I am going to put on my tinfoil hat and say that they may have a couple guys on the hook already but they are waiting to release names until some big fish are on the line so all of us psychopaths don't spend a week dogging new recruits that have been brought on as bench depth and role players thinking they are the core group.

I think we should have a competitive roster in year 1 and minimally go to the dance as a team that can make some noise if they get hot. I think we should also recognize it’s his year 1 roster and that’s basically not the best version for any coach. No HS recruiting traction (unless WVU kids flip or assistants bring some) which the portal helps with but presents another set of challenges. Having some lead time on the portal opening should be useful. I don’t mind adding Enright if CDD thinks there’s a role for him to contribute here in year 1. I do think we would HATE a backcourt of him and Nowell but there’s no indication that’s the plan. It’s just too early to read much into anything yet. Hopefully we get some good news about assistants and early roster additions soon. I want to be wowed…

There were plenty of players with more talent than Steve Alford who did not make the 1984 Olympic team.  Sometimes it is important to have a player that knows the coach, what the coach expects, how he runs practices, and the culture of the program.  We have several scholarships to fill.  I don't mind overpaying for a player that can bring these intangibles.  IU needs to build a culture and a program.  I'm fine if Enright is a Leal type player.  We don't need a team of all-stars.  It's okay to have role players too.
