The “compromise” by Dolson to let this go down this way saved us some good cash on the buyout. Lot of litigation today. Make no mistake about it, this was not Woody’s decision to retire.

I thought so too. But he acted like his legendary coach way too early. He had to earn his own right. What I don't under stand for the life of me is he played in RMK's early years, and Woody experinced first hand RMK's intense coaching and never-ending preparations. Woody knew what it takes to win it all at D1 level, but did he think he can pull it off by working so much less than RMK?

Okay I will take a stab for my fellow tinfoil hat wearers... Pop an edible (or 2 of those suckers) before reading: 

  • Yesterday, Dolson "ambushes" (my own words, from Mike's perspective) Woodson about announcing his retirement before Michigan game.
  • Mike either thought he still had a shot at a 5th year or felt disrespected about needing to announce mid-season before playing a home game - against a former IUBB manager no less (prob extra insulting in Woodson's eyes since May wasn't high profile enough for Buckner last offseason).
  • Woodson goes home at some point, talks to his family and Quinn... cooks up this "you can't force me to retire, I quit!" idea... "call his bluff" maneuver because if Dolson did really let Mike "quit" it would be obvious Dolson fired him and then Dolson would look like a big bad meanie to Quinn and his rich/powerful friends. 

I'm quite sure that's just fanfic musings, nowhere close to what really happened... but it is kinda funny to picture
