Most of the IU football starters are portal guys. Are the IU football players simply “mercenaries”? “ I just don’t get labeling individual transfer players as mercenaries when we don’t know the primary motivation of each of those individual players.

And yes, I agree that other teams are doing better with lower payrolls which is why I repeatedly say our ROI is not good.

As I understand it, the majority (or at least a good portion) of Cignetti's portal transfers are guys that he "brought with" from JMU. A newly hired coach often brings some of his players along with him to the new school... so it's not unusual, and to be expected for a first year coach. I also doubt that Cignetti will be 99+% reliant on portal transfers, differentiating himself even further from Mediocre Mike Woodson and his "recruiting" methods.

Dolson needs to send a message to Mediocre Mike that HIS performance is not acceptable.

Not a mod here, or anything close, but would like to propose a thread amendment…

this forum is generally democratic (small d), thus, I think a second and/or 3rd ‘aye’ on the amendment should be more than sufficient to pass it. I do not want to take ownership for the thought…as someone else a hundred or so pages back actually initiated the argument…

Be it declared, from here until employment separation with Indiana University…Mike Woodson no longer merits the title of ‘Mediocre’. While it is the season to be generous, some things are so over the top untrue that to ‘give’ that much simply is unconscionable. There is nothing “Mediocre” about Mike. Upon his hiring, our hope was that he was “Mediocre” at worst, and ideally much better. That hope is now completely gone. Call him many things, almost anything…just not ‘mediocre’, b/c he’s not. Not even close!

Assuming he is allowed to make a hire. Just how in the world does he get around quinn if Woodson say goes 11-9 in conference and squeaks into the tourney. There is no way quinn is letting his buddy get fired with an over .500 record in the conference. I guess they could try and talk him into quitting I suppose

For one, unless Buckner is given another term (and continues to serve as chair of the BoT), Buckner is done in late spring/early summer. The date I've seen reported for the end of his term is May 31/June 1.

Further, Bucker dug in and said MMW was getting 4 years because Archie got 4 years. The clock runs out on that crap when this season ends.

Yeah plenty of his "coaching" jobs are pretty pathetic. Mediocre Mike has a better ring to it than Lousy Mike though.

Not to be that guy, but do we know what CMW's buyout is if fired in-season vs. after the season concludes?

I’m not sure but think Quinn is off the board fairly soon. Hope that’s the case.

EDIT: just saw AZ’s post about Quinn’s term being over at the end of May. In addition I hope the boosters that ponied up this year will also be impatient/disgruntled if this year is a train wreck.

In the joyful spirit of alliteration, might I then kindly suggest “Malodorous Mike”?

$8.4M through March 30, 2026. After March 30, 2026, it drops to 50% of remaining ($4.2M).

EDITED TO CORRECT THE DATES.

The nice thing is that he agreed to a staggered payout of 1,000,000 per year, rather than a lump sum or higher payout per year, so money shouldn’t be a factor in firing him.

He's not miserable. We are. He's living the life - drinking wine, smoking his cigars and "doing his job".

Lazy recruiting because he has some rich friends willing to flush money down the toilet.

Correct he got his four years. But expectations have been lowered so much now it seems just making the tourney is to be celebrated

Dolson has a lot more power now.  The revenue that will be coming in through having a good football program (donors, allotment, sales, ticket sales) will be ridiculous. Even if Buckner wanted to keep him he can’t because the donor money and has too much power behind it.  It’s all in Dolson’s hands if he wants to make a change.

He just has to sack up and do it. I don’t think he needs Quinn’s approval does he? Quinn is on his way out anyway so pissing him off has little to no consequences
