It sure would be heinous to miss the tournament in back to back years given the investments made. That seems more likely than not, looking at the schedule and using the eye test. Oh well… 90ish days until common sense hopefully prevails. So disappointing how this year has been allowed to be rotten from the start.

I’m not defending Woody or anything that has happened. It’s been a gigantic cluster.

That being said….the “buck” should stop with the head coach so the head coach should bring in his own team. Although I understand why the administration wanted to bring in Matta  (now head coach at Butler) and Fife ( now coaching nowhere but for some inexplicable reason a few posters want him to be the interim coach because……….he has IU tie’s??  LOL LOL, LOL) but the coaching staff should 100% be the head coaches decision .

Nobody wants him to be the interim but what we want is MW gone and having someone become the interim would be a welcome change, like Crean.  I am sure Fife would still be a better option than Woodson and not because of IU ties like you mentioned but because he was one of Izzo’s top assistants and was a head coach at a D1 program.  Interim with no other strings attached is a far cry better option than Woodson finishing out the season but we all know that won’t happen

Yep, I’m sure that will be the case and logically I don’t really see the advantage of having an interim coach for a few months. If anything, if that coach has some success, that could muck up the works.

We need the coaching staff to be blown up and for a new coach to put his fingerprint on the entire organization. In this era of NIL, etc there is zero reason to think anything/anyone from the past needs to be retained nor do we need to worry about which players might leave.

We need a full makeover and the coach should report directly to the AD not some dude on the BOT.  Pam W, as president, has done a lot for the football program but how in the hell did she sign off on Woody not reporting to the AD?  REALLY DUMB.

You’ve got fear of Mike Davis’iditis but you state it up front that them becoming the head coach ain’t happening but getting hired as an assistant may be an option.  Having an interim come in to make things better than they are is a far cry better option than MW finishing out the season

Count me as one saying Woodson won't make it the entire season. I think the wheels fall off once we consistently play big 10 competition! I was watching purdue yesterday when they lost lol. They play way harder than pur team imo. We have some disappointing losses on the way imo

No one wanted Woody as a head coach but we hired him as our head coach because he played for IU. Makes no sense, at all.

No one has hired Fife as a head coach, or as an assistant, or in ANY capacity at any level of college basketball but maybe we should hire him as our interim head coach because….he played at IU??
Makes no sense at all.

Look into MSU comments when he left there.  I’ll sum it up by saying tears were not rampant. I have nothing against Fife, and loved him as a player, but hiring him to be the interim head coach rather than every other possibility??? No Bueno.

Do not look at the contract for finality.

They can negotiate it away.

For instance, if Woody agrees, then pay him extra to leave early.

There are other options too.  If he is found in violation of any part of the contract, then they can claim he broke it.

So look at the future as an opportunity.  If they say to Woody, that he is gone.  Maybe there are options to leaving early that just may help him.

As much as I want Woodson fired before the end of the season, it is not going to happen. I'd be happy with the announcement that he will complete the season, and then step down/resign/retire/whatever... not sure that will happen either... but I just don't see IU sending him packing before the season ends, no matter how much he deserves it.

Sorry but I have no idea what your first sentence means.

Anyway, at the end of the season I think the entire basketball staff, from strength coach to head coach, needs to be blown up and we need a new leader and culture. No holdovers with past attitudes/culture/experiences/expectations. EVERYTHING needs to be changed and tied to new head coach.

One may consider calming down and try to appreciate that other people have differing opinions.  It makes this site and living a lot more enjoyable.  Especially if one listens to understand another point of view, rather than with the intent to just respond and diss.

Some of us may appreciate another person explaining why the other person's opinion may not be correct.  Rhetoric is cool.  But it doesn't necessarily carry the discussion forward.

I would like to hear why hiring Woodson had nothing to do with the program being mismanaged (in my opinion) by the Board of Trustees and the Department.

Not sure what you're getting at.  But other than hiring/firing a coach, these days what does the administration do to handcuff a program?  Woodson was a bad hire, no question.  But it is clear it wasn't an "administration" hire, but rather a Buckner hire.  But once the coach is hired, it's on him to succeed or fail, no?

What limitations is the administration putting on him?

APR? Is that even a thing anymore?

Can he not hire/fire his own coaches?  Get rid of the strength/conditioning guy?

Not enough money to pay the players?  Unlike others, IU generally wouldn't prior to NIL.

Like I said, that just leaves me with the old fashioned cheerleader uniforms.

I am guessing that will happen the last few weeks of the season if things go bad.  The place will be so toxic, he'll have no choice to save face.

I guess what I’m getting at is it’s Carmelo Anthony’s fault Woody is our head coach..

Carmelo might've had a hidden agenda. He hated IU beat his beloved Cuse in '87, so he secretly steered us for Woodson.

"Imma throw you guys Woody so you waste 4 years and sh!t load of money!"

Believe it or not this is directly from Woodys wiki page.  Someone is punking the public:

Woodson embraced "a modern style of play" at Indiana. He implemented "a four-out one-in offensive system that highlights versatile athletes in a free-flowing system" and "made a point to emphasize that he understood the importance of 3-pointers."[24] Woodson also utilizes analytics to help determine player combinations.[24]

Good news (in a perverse way)  is that this is year 4.

Pretty sure that's how it went down with Davis. We were in a late-season death spiral, on the verge of missing the tournament for a third straight year (unfathomable at the time, but hardly surprising present day). After the announcement, we rattled off 5 straight wins and actually had a decent finish.

Not unlike Woodson's performance last season... after burning things to the ground, he ran off 4 straight to finish the B1G at 10-10 (18-13) and then split 2 games in the B1G tournament. That made the final season record decent, but not worthy of an NCAA bid.

It seems pretty much on par with where this season is headed.

11 games in and zero good wins. Chances of not making it are strong. Just wonder what excuses the king will use. No injuries so far so he cant use that one.

But if he gets fired he will still always be the king of indiana to his twitter cult
