That said, it would be objectively hilarious for a new coach to come in, keep everyone with eligibility and immediately turn it around. There’s a decent to good team here, it’s just lacking any identity, cohesion, or modern coaching. I can picture a lot of coaches that could take this roster and rattle off 25ish wins. Yes. In the offseason there was a lot of chest thumping by the Woodson defenders about the talent on the team. They pretty much ignored it when we said, "Yeah, but they'll still be 'coached' by Woodson so it still won't be a very good team." Woodson's coaching ability was also taken into account by the preseason rankings which had them lower than they should've been with the talent brought in. So a decent coach could certainly do well with if all those with eligibility remained next season. That said, there isn't anyone on this team that I would miss. I wouldn't be upset with a total turnover in the program, players included. I at very least want Woodson, all 3 assistant coaches, and Marshall to all be replaced. Others like Cheaney and Hulls, meh, don't care either way. MemphisHoosier, OKHOOSIER, FWHoosier84 and 10 others 12 1

I have the sense that the players wouldn't be game for the culture shock that would be coming their way. I talked to Hulls two summers at a golf event ago before last season started, and he said the intensity of practices had materially increased with additions of Gabe and Payton Sparks (not sure what that says about TJD and Kopp's last year). Both of those guys are gone/not playing, so I would imagine the current guys aren't being challenged all that much from an intensity perspective. A lot of speculation on my part, but I would bet it's true. OKHOOSIER 1

Best case, new coach is a home run guy and he stays. I don’t see the down side. I agree with you. I guess I’m thinking more from his part, with a coach who’s guaranteed to be fired. Question for anyone who may know: if a player signs an NIL deal & a coaching change occurs is the contract amount still valid or would it become negotiable? MikeRoberts 1

The talking heads who wrote ill about the Miller and crean firings were guys who had personal relationships with them.Woodson and Ferguson are probably offering him a crazy amount of the cooks money the new coach may not think he is worth. It's the only way Woodson can get guys. Overpay. Plus anyone Woodson recruits to me now is a red flag. Mcnelly was smart he wanted no part of woodson. Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk
Hornsby Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 Haven't seen it posted, why do we think we are getting him? Based on nothing, but my money is on Wisconsin in this race. No idea why this kid would want to play for Woodson over wisconsin.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk
Papacap Posted January 23, 2025 Posted January 23, 2025 That we need to get blown out or some other “optics” for us to maybe, perhaps, if the stars align make a change shows how much of a clown show IU has become. Yes. Getting destroyed by Maryland…. That would do it. People thinking Woodson is gone by the end of the year is cute. I remember thinking Santa was real, too. Good times.
JF87 Posted January 24, 2025 Posted January 24, 2025 It doesn't seem like the Administration can get Woodson to improve, and it doesn't appear that Woodson can motivate our team to play up to their potential. It's up to the fans that attend the game to provide the impetus for change. I hope poor play and poor effort are met with plenty of boos in our remaining home games. Expectations must be met by IU coaches and players. If not, the coaches, players, and administration must be embarrassed in front of the viewing audience. BannerVille 1

That is where I have concerns because you just take their word as gospel. You believe it then when things don't happen then people jump to the conclusion that the administration is incompetent. The thing is these talks about interim coaches probably never happen but people think they did so you jump to the conclusion the administration backed down. cybergates 1

That fact just makes hiring him even dumber. I didn’t like the hire but the part that that didn’t make it totally dumb, which was fairly smart on Dolson’s behalf since he was forced to hire this idiot in the first place place, but was putting Matta and Fife on the staff. That why most fans came around and accepted the hire because Matta and Fife would have helped with all the intangibles they from recruiting, roster construction, game preparation, etc but Woodson nip that in the butt immediately after he start because he knew those two would have found out he doesn’t know crap and would have reported to Dolson how bad he actually is or how lazy he is. He never intended on actually doing the work required, he just wanted the pay. The hire was dumb but having Matta and Fife on staff actually wasn’t. Allowing Woodson to fire Fife and run off Matta was even dumber. We will never know if that was going to work because Woodson wouldn’t allow it. They should have fired him after that, IMO Happydaze, jonz44, BannerVille and 1 other 4
