I was thinking about this as the game unfolded last night... some of these guys are willing to lay it on the line to keep Woodson on the sidelines, but only when his back is absolutely against the wall. Why haven't these guys played with the same reckless abandon from the start of the season? Why has this fervor not been on display all season this far?

It's doing the bare minimum to keep the crap fest rolling. No more. No less.

Exactly, if they truly love playing for Woodson why did they come out and play dead vs UI

If Quinn Buckner lets Mike Woodson walk back into Assembly Hall to get booed relentlessly for an entire season… who needs enemies with friends like that… maybe Woody has some sort of kink for being hated and doesn’t mind as long as the checks keep clearing and wine keeps flowing lol. We know he doesn’t get too upset about losing anyways.
You really think he gets booed if he is 6-3 next weekend.

IU is going to allow the narrative that Indiana fans are awful to grow if they allow Woodson to coach anymore games at Assembly Hall

We already know they’re more than content to let those narratives run wild. We are sacrificial lambs on the altar of their own egos… fodder for their own vanity projects… just keep the money flowing in fellas. That’s Your Job as a True Fan of Indiana Basketball.

I think I've got all the stages of this process figured out:

1) We get embarrassed, fans are pissed, we all want Woodson gone right away.

2) Our insiders/whisperers start telling us things we want to hear, leaving us eager for more and hopeful a change is coming.

3) The team picks up an unexpected, ugly win.

4) Our insiders/whisperers start walking back what they've said.

5) We prepare for the next inevitable beatdown.

Looks like we're at #4.

Our program is the definition of insanity...

Not the same amount of boos and chants as Illinois, but the “vibe” will continue being off, everyone groaning from the start of the game… even in AH I think fans will have a short leash at this point

My question is why does everybody just assumes these guys actually know anything and there were actually these discussions going on.

Hope. My ~20 years as an IU fan have nearly killed all of it, but there’s still a little left. A fifth Woodson season would finish my hope off, though.

I am not taking about next season just the talk of them firing him right now

I’m just throwing this out there for speculation. Clearly there are people more in the know than me, but the following crossed my mind. If I recall correctly, when Mike Davis announced he was stepping down at the end of the season, he did so at a post game press conference after a win, I believe against Penn St. I wonder, win or lose, if history might repeat itself Wednesday night and we get a statement after the NW game that retirement is happening at season’s end. The hope from all parties involved being that that announcement will be enough to silence most of the boos, negativity, etc to get through the next two months.

Because they have emails to prove it. Just kidding lol.

So, what does that mean in terms of action?

He’s not coaching this team next year. Zero chance. Any worry I had about that is gone. This team stinks, and is probably going to finish sub .500 or right at it in the B1G. All you had to do was watch us last night. It was two bad teams and one has to win. The B1G has 18 teams. Half of them are mediocre to bad, we were always going to out talent and/or ride a hot hand/or opposing team egg to a few wins.

And if they pull off the impossible and win like 11+? Hey great! Enjoy the wins, hope for a decent tournament showing (not get nuked). He’s still not going to be coaching this team next season.

As bad as we've looked, it's hard for me to believe they will fire Woody in season when he's sitting at 14-5, 5-3 Big Ten. Even though we all understand that record is a bit of fool's gold.

I think he retires after the season.

100%. All the interim coach talk and mid-season firing is just wishful thinking (imo) which ignores everything the U/Trustees have done with Woodson to date.

He’ll be given the rest of the season to accomplish whatever he can. Then he’ll retire, in all likelihood.
