Providence is not a good team and isn’t going to make the tournament. SC also is not good, but may sneak in by virtue of the SEC. IMO, 10-10 isn’t gonna get it done for IU. We need 11-9 or 12-8 to be on the bubble, and it’s hard to look at our schedule left and see 10 wins left.

With how soft our non-conference schedule was we had to have competent play in the Bahamas. I said it before but Mike Woodson has 5 wins against teams that finished in the AP Poll and three of those are Purdue. Only one of the five is on the road, also Purdue when they shot 21% from 3 and JHS went unconscious. Point being, Mike Woodson’s teams don’t win games as an underdog. It’s a hallmark of his tenure. There’s no reason to think that changes and we win games we shouldn’t with this team. We aren’t making the tournament.

Beating Rutgers at home without their best player and letting their other best player drop 39 in AH is hardly cause for celebration. I’ve come around to believe it doesn’t matter if we sneak in the tournament, and he’s most likely gone either way. Time will tell.
Providence is about to go 7-8 after uconn throttles them this weekend. They were also without their best player when Woodson beat them. Bottom line is Woodson will have to best teams like illinois and michigan state. He has no good wins. Rutgers probably finishes bottom third

I simply have no faith in the administration that gave him a $1 million raise for making the tournament then firing him after making the tournament.

It’s going to be an administration battle royal if he makes the tournament and we try to fire him.  Quinn will still be around.  He probably gets an extension.   Is Dolson really going to have the balls to go against some of the power brokers?  He’d be risking his career, to fire mediocre mike. I don’t see it.  He’ll focus on football instead.

Correct dolson isn't risking his job to fire Woodson. Quinn likely wins that battle. The only thing that might change it is if the big donors put away their wallets for bbal. Unlikely.

There’s definitely less pressure on Dolson to make a move now that IUFB has arrived. Basketball had been king at IU, but football is king within college sports at large. Maybe it’s just me, but basketball feels like an afterthought at this point. It’s all about the football transfer portal and reloading for next year. May not be worth rocking the boat when IUFB has fans happy.

I look it the other way that the success in football is going to put more presser on Woodson and the basketball program. IU is and will always be more of a basketball school and the fans will expect the same turn around in basketball as we seen in football

I understood that the raise was given so IU could spread a buyout to 1 million per year.

Not a bad move in the grand scheme... not that he deserved a raise, but at least now Dolson can make him wait for the golden parachute to fully deploy.

Dolson has some capital of his own at this point...

Not sure if I'm a member of the Cook, Simons or Ferguson families that I'm happy with my investment in this POS "coach". At some point they have to realize they're repainting a sinking ship.

And Cignetti has shown the world what is possible... turned a historically crappy program around in a single year... the expectation has to be that basketball should also be able to rebound quickly... and with Lazy Mike driving the ship, we've not seen it over a 4-year period.

Especially spending at least $6 million to buy a team!

One of you Negative Nancy's please explain how a lane duck trustee is going to get Dolson fired if Dolson fires Woodson. For Domain to do that he'd likely have at least Whiten on his side. I just don't see it happening so I need details from one of you how Buckner will pull that off. You're giving him waaaay too much credit.

Hell, if it really got ugly Dolson could just back off until the summer and then fire Woodson as a f-you to Buckner on July 1. There's nothing Buckner could do to stop that and everyone knows it.

It could also "leak" that the university wants to fire Woodson but Buckner is blocking it and all the dirt that entails. Destroy his legacy.

I doubt Woodson has as much booster support after this disappointing season is over.

I read Ferguson is Woodson best buddy and mentor. I assume he will do anything he can to keep him here. You honestly think Ferguson can look at the situation without blinders on? He would have to admit his buddy stinks as a coach. Another good football season again next year and bbal will indeed not be the top sport at iu anymore. The younger generation of iu fans has no idea what a winning bbal program is even like

I’m not plugged into IU athletics, politics or anything close. But to me, cig’s success makes it tougher to justify keeping Woodson if we barely make the tourney and get a quick bounce. Why? Because it’s easier to turn a basketball program around than football. So why the hell hasn’t IU basketball been consistently good since the early 90s?  The biggest issue I see is the apathy from IU fans regarding basketball is high . That’s the only thing that can save Woodson. People have just stopped giving a ****.

The fan apathy is high because of apathy on the part of the administration. Bad hires... keeping bad coaches for 4 years or longer...

It’s a new kind of arms race in college athletics. It used to be based on getting money for facilities to stay up with or ahead of the pack. Better facilities, in theory, better recruiting and coaches. Now, it is money for NIL. But these donors seem to have a stronger voice in who the coach will be.

Will the money dry up if we keep Woody and keep being basically a top 35-50 team?  Or do those donors give only because of his influence and relationship?  How do you keep part of the donor base happy if they want to move on while another important group wants to keep the coach.

Dolson has a lot of experience working with these groups so he is probably a great guy to handle it.  Hopefully he can find a way to “honor” Woody with an exit plan that keeps important donors happy and gets us back on a winning track.

Kind of interesting that yeah with NIL will be interesting if facilities get more bare bones with only the necessities.

If IUFB takes off how much would losing donor money really affect our sports programs considering the money FB brings in?
Gotta keep the Scott's and cooks happy. This is why you should never hire a former player. We now have to tip toe around his feelings. Just can him already.
