BtownStrength Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 As depressing as it is to miss on Dusty, it's even more depressing that Woodson will be coaching us. I could stand losing Dusty if we had hope in another candidate. hper50, thebigweave, OldBuddy67 and 1 other 4

Assuming May takes a new gig and wouldn’t want to leave after a year at a big program. Who is on your list in 12 months? Any guys that continue to build their resume? I’ll give my list. 2 tiers Tier 1(make it a point not to get past this list) no particular order Bruce Pearl, TJ Otzelberger, Shaka Smart, Tony Bennett, Scott Drew Tier 2 - this group would need to prove themselves again next year with consistency, but could make the discussion Micah Shrewsberry, Josh Schertz, and a wild card for me is Will Wade. Don’t think IU would ever touch him but same stuff Sean Miller and Self were involved in. And he’s still very young at 41. He’s going to get another chance somewhere. I'm not really sure how anyone watches UVA last night and thinks "yup, that's what I want to watch for the foreseeable future". Other than that, good list. J34, AZ Hoosier, 94Bulldog and 8 others 11

Serious question since we have been horrible the past several years with other coaches.

We could do worse. The main thing I think you would want with Alford is a defensive specialist as an assistant. Assume Neal Craig comes with him and then you would want a recruiter. And I also would not be surprised to see something like that. The chances that this program is a smoldering pile of ash next year aren't low.

Popular Post HoosierMatty Posted March 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted March 20, 2024 You know we've just about hit rock bottom as fans when we are trying to do the mental gymnastics necessary to convince ourselves "Alford" isn't that bad. hper50, ziggyiu, tkbbn and 11 others 11 1 2

But if those guys he’s not the highest on my list for sure.

I could stand losing Dusty if we had hope in another candidate. It is just the iu way just like we waited to long on Steven's and Matta. We probably end up hiring somebody like Michael Lewis. I really think it's going to get so ugly next season and Woody will leave such a bare roster that no will want the job. Also, keep in mind who one of Steve's good friends is and who was a student manager from 1984-1988. From what I've read, I think they are too close of friends. Won't happen.

realTomCrean Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 Ok so my last post was just to rile you all up and somehow people are on board. Whatever EFF it. Alford + DD + Neal Craig + Ed Schilling + Calbert + Jordan Hulls ;)

He got a shot at a blue blood and didn’t get past the S16, and 2. he’s not at an age where he’s a long term upside play. There’s more too. Mishandled at least one player misconduct situation egregiously, doesn’t move the needle with recruits, so on. At least when IU hired CMW you could say he had some NBA guys in his corner, league connections would appeal to recruits, he had some theoretical pluses. Alford doesn’t even have that juice. str8baller 1

First was the Pierre Pierce thing. Still can't believe that, and he only apologized to get the UCLA job. He was pretty good at Manchester College, and good enough at SW Missouri State to get the Iowa gig. But his record since then has been a series of ups and downs. He does recruit better than Woodson, but so do you and I. OKHOOSIER and AZ Hoosier 2

He's probably untouchable right now, and may not be interested in leaving everything that he's build in W Lafayette, but I could definitely get on that train. thebigweave 1
