Soon to RETIRE Coach Woodson Thread

Yeah, what you described is no longer college athletics. NIL you don't have to worry about parents or events anymore. Do you want to come play here? If so what is your price? You either pay it or you don't.

A lot changes in 4 years. The Celtics won a championship. The team is for sale, new owners might want to go in a different direction, and they have to unload some players here soon due to contracts, so going to be a rebuild. Kids are older, son is in college in Indiana, parents are older and live in Indiana. Might want to be closer to them. His contract is up in June anyway.

I actually think that working in the front office of an NBA team would be a huge advantage to navigating NIL at the college level.

It would also be a good selling point that he’s been the orchestrator of winning at both levels. I have zero apprehension of the college game passing him by. Will he pull the trigger?  Some people are gonna look awfully smart if he does.

This is what I hear/imagine in my head when I read majority of AH1971 post.

”Buuuutt he isn’t removed in the middle of the season so he’s not fired see I told you!”

Well we all know by now that AH doesn’t stand for Assembly Hall!

Just in case this hasn't been posted.... The retiring news is out!

https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/sports/college/iu/2025/02/06/indiana-basketball-coach-mike-woodson-considering-retiring-at-end-of-2024-25-season/78237289007/

Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson is considering retiring. Discussions underway about his future

I love the "discussions underway about his future"....LMAO...IU gonna frick things up again. There is no discussion...He needs to be gone. My boss wanted to fire me but I said "well, I might retire ..lets just agree to keep the discussion open"...LMAO...Unbelievable...Surely Dolson does not think the fan base would be upset???

Personal take, but screw it. I don't want someone who needs begged or coerced constantly. Give me someone who has the fire and determination that would love the opportunity. Last name starts with B also. After FIRE WOODSON of course

I would personally get on my hands and knees if it meant Stevens was coming lol

If the list Chris posted is correct here's how I'd rank them:

1. Stevens

2. Few

3. Pearl

4. May

I'd be absolutely floored by either of the first two. I have a hard time seeing someone leave the Celtics front office to coach college; his time away makes me think he may not be the sure thing he once was but he's shown he has a real mind for the game so he could very well figure it out.

Where would everyone rank Donovan on this list? I’m also surprised nobody has put the coach from Louisville on the list. How quickly he’s turned Louisville around is impressive

I really don't get why some wouldn't want Few. The man can flat out coach basketball. Sure, he's not a sexy hire but damn, the guy is one hell of a coach. Give him our NIL and we're in business pretty quick.

I'd absolutely love it.

I mean... why wouldn't that be a "sexy" hire? I'm with you, but I would call that a power play. Also.. he's pretty well maxed out Gonzaga's capabilities.

Purely based on his personality. He's the complete opposite of Pearl and Beard which is what I gather a lot of folks are  looking for. I want a winner. That's all I care about.

Osterman Was just on 107.5.

Most of what he said was worthless, but at the very end, I think he seemed to make it very clear that Woody is not wanting to go quietly

We figured that much. With the ego he seems to have the only way he was going quietly is if it was fully his decision.

He doesn't pull all the way up into the space. He leaves at least 6 feet in front of the curb. I assume that is because its easier for him to get out of the car if he isn't right next to another car.

He’s Mr Magoo. Haven’t you seen the glasses?

NBA coaching is a way better lifestyle. I personally don’t see Donovan leaving.

Stevens didn’t leave college coaching bc he hated coaching.  Now with Indiana NIL, the timing is perfect for him and he checks every known box … hence why he’s by far and away the #1 candidate
