Isn’t his buyout like $15-20mil? If so, he’s one of the few who are less likely than Stevens. How’s that for irony?

Something like that. Would still cost a fraction of the salary Stevens demands.

The biggest issues are two-fold... one, his wife is an alum and played women's basketball at Iowa State; and two, they're both locked in at Ames. It would take a pretty big crowbar to pry them away... and then there's the big buyout...

But with that said, I've been a big fan of TJ and have mentioned his name several times over the course of the epically failed Woodson era. I just see the deck stacked against a move to Bloomington.

Yeah, but we are talking two Sweet 16s vs. two NC games and an NBA championship. I'm OK paying a little more for that, especially when it's not IU's money

I would have to assume IU would be ok paying for either one currently lol

Without a blessing for Beard or Wade (who would both take the job by the way), TJ Otz is my first call without question. Likely a no but I can afford to be turned down once. Start striking out on guys like Stevens, May, Pearl, you’re going to get an influx of calls from agents you’ve never heard from before and you’re going to be taken for a long, hard ride.

From there I kick the tires on Mick Cronin. Mick has publicly called into question UCLA’s NIL and for the right job geographically, I think he bolts. Really surprised he didn’t end up at Louisville last cycle. Realistically, he’d be one of the best candidates without any serious baggage you could hope to hire.

Strike out on those two and then I’ve probably shown my hand and the chances of getting a P4 guy that has shown some success really dwindles from there.

If I’m looking at guys at smaller conferences, Chris Mack and Pitino Jr are probably your best bets.

Other than Chris Mack, I endorse this post. As much as neither would win the press conference, both Cronin and Pitino Jr. would win at a rate that IUBB hasn’t witnessed in 20+ years.

And while Otz would be expensive, he’d be every bit the grand slam home run that Stevens would be.

Looking at Otz record...what made Iowa State want him after going 17-15 Y1 and then 12-15 Y2 at UNLV. I am not familiar with his background, but he jumped from South Dakota State where he won a lot in 3 years, to 2 very mediocre/bad years at UNLV, to Iowa State.

10-15 years ago sure. TJ is one of the hottest names going in college basketball right now. Plus, you know, he actually wants to coach in college at the moment.

Easier to put higher dollar amounts into a salary if there is no buyout.

7/70 - 10 a year

6 years at 40 million plus 20 million buyout is 6/60 and 10 a year

10 million a year after all is said and done either way.

Stevens already turned down $10mil/yr….

He’s got ties to Iowa State. And every situation is different. Unless you’re at a high major school, raw W-L record isn’t always the best way to gauge a coach.

Really? A lot of rumors on the ISU board about him bolting to the first available NBA job this summer. Don't know if it's true or not but I don't want to take the risk.

In all seriousness, if we get TJ, I'll hurt myself trying to do a backflip. I like him. I think he's on the list for sure. I have him 3rd or 4th for me.

Plus, you know, he also just signed a contract extension through 2032 like 45 days ago, and already had agreed to a top-15 buyout on the 55th highest salary in D1 prior to that extension. Those aren't the actions of someone intent on leaving their current job. TJ coming here is more farcical than Brad Stevens ever was other than him being a current college basketball coach lol
