Stuhoo Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 CJ Gunn is a fantastic on-ball defender. Discuss? (nah—it’s a fact, Jack) Jeff Flabjohns, Ngw7183, FortWayneHoosier and 4 others 6 1 Quote

Now let's see if he can stack a few games like this. Agree 100%. Tonight I would say MR was the best player but Gunn was the MVP (for making a number of relatively unexpected plays off the bench in crunch time). Gunn is exactly what we need to fill one of our biggest holes but, to your point, it is only meaningful long term if he can stack games like this. If so, our ceiling rises a bit. Quote

jefftheref Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Three Long Islands and anything is possible. Congratulations to the Hoosier's for pulling it out. I might make over indulging a pre game ritual. Quote

Popular Post Stuhoo Posted January 7, 2024 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2024 OSU’s three guards; Thornton, Gayle, and Bonner, were a combined 8-39 from the floor. Gallo, X, and Gunn never let them get comfortable and rarely let them get to the rim or get a clean look. And our bigs helped on them, which led to a ton of offensive rebounds for OSU. Here’s the deal; when playing a decent team you often have to give up something, and we decided to pay a ton of attention to their guards, who are both excellent scorers. In doing so Okpara got a ton of rebounds. And OSU only scored 27 in the second half. That’s whatcha call an effective game plan. lillurk, Ngw7183, HoosierHoopster and 6 others 9 Quote

(nah—it’s a fact, Jack) Nah…he gets beat on the first step too much and is not that fast laterally. He got taken to the hole at the end of the game pretty easily but he recovered nicely and the osu player missed the layup. He’s long and can get those hands active sometimes which helps. But overall he’s way too inconsistent to be considered a good defender on the ball, off the ball, or otherwise. He had a nice night tonight and can contribute if he’s going to regularly make shots and get in good position defensively. Quote

monskisprodigy Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 I really didn’t think we’d win this one. Give the guys credit. They fought. Good for Gunn and X. Reneau with another big game. 8bucks 1 Quote
Stuhoo Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Another quiet kudo tonight; Banks played his @$$ off and Battle quieted down as soon as he came in. Walker did a nice job defensively too. Home Jersey, thebigweave and lillurk 3 Quote

But…… There is no question that X is “uneven” but lets face it. X went 8-11 from the FT line but if he was still injured Cupps probably would have gone 0-0 from the line. As a freshman Cupps is mature for his age bringing up the ball, not making mistakes etc but we need a PG that can influence the offensive side of the court. X can do that (and he can also frustrate us). Home Jersey, moyemayhem, Ngw7183 and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Trish Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 Have to catch this on replay, that’s a good win. This team needs to find the consistent flow in B1G to make the big dance. They needed this win for sure. Enjoy the cigar Woody! thebigweave 1 Quote
