Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

Now, everyone in America knows about IU, but some elitist are waiting for the "all knowing" and expected hiccup to show reason why we don't belong with the big boys. Here's the current stage, we have our new Commander and Chief in the driver's seat and everyone else's envy. Scott Dolson should be named A.D. of the year for this one hire alone. To go along with this rocket-like trajectory of success, Scott Dolson and Co. should already have all the money to match ANY and all suiters ready at his disposal. We have seen the results of Coach Cignetti's "Blueprint and Plan",....now what will Scott Dolson's "Blueprint and Plan" be to keep him long term?

Go IU!

I think it’s going to go beyond money. He mentioned his wife loves it here. He mentioned that he really enjoys working with Dolson and Whitten. The investment into football seems to be there.

Unless he came here with the intention on using it as a stepping stool, I’m confident we have what it takes to keep him here.

I sure hope so anyway. I sprung for 4 season tickets next season and I’m shopping for a tailgating RV.

USC’s ideal Lincoln Riley replacement is doing what Trojans couldn’t in the Big Ten https://fansided.com/usc-s-ideal-lincoln-riley-replacement-is-doing-what-trojans-couldn-t-in-the-big-ten

That a HC 1 year removed from an FCS school and who will be 64 before he coaches a game in ‘25 is now the apple of literally every power conference school that’s underperforming is simply awesome. Oh, to be his agent. “Ok, folks, just send me your sealed bids and we’ll let you know.”  That being said, I absolutely don’t believe he’ll leave. This feels like way too good a fit.

I don't worry about IU sports; I find it really entertaining and interesting, so I wonder a whole lot.

Of all of the things that I wonder about, Curt Cignetti leaving IU Football after one year is not on the list. As long as Dolson and Whitten stay in place I believe the chances of that happening are really low.

This clip makes me think he’s where he wants to be.  He’s in a premier conference. He’s building something.

Agree 100%. You reach an age(waves hand wildly) where if a role can give you what you need from it then the comfort factors become the thing. 12 months ago nobody would have said this job had the pathway that a guy who's goal was top of the foodchain would live with. Dude's proved in 1 season that it does. So his comfort level with the outside stuff is gonna be the deal and there is no universe where anyone's gonna question a single thing he wants. Imagine the stadium expansion plans are already in the works. Giant-a$$ raise? Probably already negotiated. Staff raises? Watch how fast. It is gonna be good to be Cig and he has absolutely earned it.

Agree!

I believe he stays in Bloomington. He and his wife love it here. And he's proven you can win here.

As long as the commitment to winning that Cig has mentioned continues to be there, I think we will be able to hold onto him. 64, long time as an assistant, came up from D2, son of a coach… I think he takes pride in building, and he’s shown he can compete at the highest level in year 1. I think to be top 10 in salary, we’d need to be paying 9M+ a year… hopefully there’s nothing stopping IU from doing that. Especially after adding capacity to the stadium, which I assume will happen ASAP, I can’t wait to see where this program is in a few years. To think, we all would have been thrilled if we could consistently win 8 games a year. He knew in the preseason this team could play for a B10 title. Saying Michigan and OSU also suck when being introduced set the tone… the confidence, the swagger, the oozing competitiveness… Hard not to gush!

I agree we need to give him a raise, along with his staff. How much of one for his first year in high major ball is the question. No doubt this year has exceeded even optimistic projections.

9 mil would have him in line with the likes of Kiffin and Stoops, only Lincoln Riley and Ryan Day making more in conference. 8 would be same as Cristobal at Miami, he'd be 4th in conference behind Riley/Day/Franklin. I could see going to 8 with an increase in staff pay, not sure I'd go higher than 9 maybe 9.5 though.

Hopefully this year gets donors to add a good amount to NIL.

I think (hope) he stays too, but I wonder if he loses both OC and DC. Hopefully they have been grooming replacements.

Man you guys are pumping hard.   I think it'll be really difficult to hold onto him when Auburn, Florida, or USC offer him $9M/year.

But I'll worry about that after the season.  This has been an amazing ride

AD will have to match.  CCC basically saved his job.

I was somewhat surprised that Indiana is now rated in the top ten.  Usually, a team has to beat a highly ranked team to get up there.  Indiana has not.

Maybe the best opponent yet is Washington which does have a winning record.  Barely.  5 - 4, 3 - 3.  And Nebraska also has a winning record but is on life support.  5 - 4, 2 - 4.

Wow.   Has Michigan fallen off the pace, or what?!  No surprise, but ouch.

Indiana hosts Michigan, then runs into reality at OSU and then hosts Purdon't.

I am very pro Indiana.  But please be somewhat conservative in assessing IU's performance against a not really too tough schedule.

Cignetti is superb.  But the big boys are too.  Heady stuff.

Thought experiment, based on nothing but speculation and very unlikely to occur, but curious what others would think...

Say Bama decides to bring Cig home? An offer he can't refuse...

Would you be willing to accept that if we then hired DeBoer in a de facto trade?

I would not take that as a straight up trade, but under the hypothetical condition where CCC is 100% gone, this scenario would very obviously cement Cig's legacy in terms of elevating the program.

After just one year! It would be hard to be mad at him. But please don't leave CCC...

Just for the sake of conversation

DeBoer is no slouch (to put it lightly) and still just 50. Say they lose to LSU and/or Auburn and their boosters get antsy... if you squint, you can sort of see it. I feel like Texas, Bama and UGA would be the only three schools that could truly pull whoever they want no matter how good of a fight the current school puts up.

Brian Kelly left ND for LSU and hasn't had any better luck down there. CCC specifically referenced BK as another coach who came up through D2, so I think he does take notice of that sort of thing and may have an appreciation for the grass not always being greener... Call it sunshine or cope, I think at a certain age most people recognize there is something to be said about being a big fish in a small pond/creating the culture/setting the expectation vs. stepping into the higher profile, higher intensity, more volatile role.

Or simply look at all the metrics which paint the picture that the team is actually really good.
