I hope no one takes this wrong, but Barrel Rick is the only reason I think he is committing to IU. Geography is the only thing that makes sense.

• Likely wants premium NIL, 
• A coach who has a recent history of NBA connections and getting kids to the NBA, and
• Wants to play for a big-time program with other big-time players?

That seems like a pretty good IUBB fit to me. We are not the only program that fits most of those criteria, but the first two points are pretty uniquely IU.

I hope he chooses the best fit for his basketball future. I'll be happy if we get him but I've went and watched him alot the last year and a half and part of me will be sad for him if he picks IU.  There are coaching staffs out there that can put him in the league in two years. Ours isn't one of them. He needs a coach that runs elite offensive stuff that will benefit his development and exploit his skill set.

He got JHS in the NBA in one year. You are letting your dislike for the coach to cloud your judgement

Yeah probably 80-90% of all high school recruitments comes down to geography.  Nothing new.    Always bet on the home team if they have put in work to get the state talent and the kid is serious about going to the state school.    Of course it’s happened where they don’t get a kid but usually geography is going to win out most of the time

I understand the thought but if he hits open shots and his athleticism holds up to be a solid defender he’ll excel anywhere.

For as much as I doubt Woody, as this is part of the reason, he runs NBA actions. That’s part of why the NBA is drafting Woody guys.

I prefer faster/more ball movement. More off ball actions. More cutting. Etc. That’s a big reason I like college basketball but much of that isn’t emphasized in the NBA.

Shooting/defending/ shot-making creativity has been emphasized.

Liam McNeeley is an NBA dude. Without question. I think Mullins could be, but he isn’t a McNeeley level player. And none of this matters if he hits 40+% of his threes.

Agree, although I’d argue McKneeley’s athleticism is undervalued.

Seems like this recruitment is getting more complicated and extremely congested!  He’s going to play this out until the final days, IMO.  Too many blue blood teams involved with a very good NIL dollars, it’s going to be hard for us to be above UConn and Kensucky, IMO

Seems like this recruitment is getting easier.  Hometown team,  blue blood  that’s about to land a 5 star at the SG position and a blue blood thats geography is a negative against them.   Going to be hard for the blue bloods to over come the home team in this one in my opinion

It is both flattering and intriguing for a local top 50 kid to be recruited nationally and by blue bloods.

But then reality sets in; the choice isn't IU or "a bunch of exciting new places that want me;"

• It's IU or Lexington Kentucky; three hours away, all opponents even farther away, and a new coach who hasn't put anyone in the NBA at a school that hasn't been all that recently, or
• Or it's IU vs UConn, the #1 program in the country, but a one hour drive to the Hartford airport and then a one stop flight through Atl or Chicago to get to the Indianapolis airport and then another one hour drive to the house. So an eight hour trip home or an eight hour trip for mom and dad and friends to see you and see you play.

So I still like our chances.
