Sorry that 50% of 4 posters deciding not to treat this like a blowoff game upsets you so much.

Why would 50% of the first 4 post deciding we were going to have to battle with the mighty Kennesaw St. upset me? Are you upset with my post?

Yeah our shooting is not the issue. Lack of volume is an issue,  But not %

Which is a continuation from last season. I haven’t seen the volume numbers this year so don’t know how much more we’re shooting from deep, we do have more of an outside game but it still looks pretty imbalanced to me. Would be interested to see how our shooting numbers from deep compare on volume with other top 25 and B1G teams

Yes, his guy constantly got around on the drive. Which created an open lane, or an open three, due to having to help.

A continuation on this.  Their guards last night came out past the three point line to guard aggressively with proper stance and hand position.  Smaller and less athletic but far superior basketball technique. I don’t know if it was #1 or #21 but we haven’t had a guard defend like that in eons. (Xavier was close)

We are so passive on defense. Almost like we are playing a zone with the help side. And I understand help side.  But individually seeing proper stance, hands, and aggressiveness is refreshing. Simple basic stuff. We had guys closing out with narrow stances and hands not out or up but just at their sides, as entry passes go around them.

I don’t get it.  Basic stuff.

And if that was the only fundamentals we had issues with we’d be doing alright. Hopefully, we can out athlete/talent teams.

It’s because CMW wants to play inside/out!

I was watching with only one eye lol...

Lazy first H...

But overall...

  • G play was decent. JHS was good, Gallo good, and Bates had a nice game.
  • I know they looked directionless at times, but understandable without X and TJD, and playing 2 frosh... no biggee.
  • a W is a W... now the work starts...

I would say Galloway's technique is pretty good.  When he's beat, I wouldn't say it's technique but rather that he's been beat by someone faster.

Northwestern Michigan Minnesota Nebraska Illinois Penn State Maryland Iowa (KMurray currently worse off than Trayce)

Which of those teams do you think we’ll finish behind, assuming Trayce can play?

Have we seen anything this season to make you think otherwise? I’m saying that I can’t confidently say that this team is good enough to finish in the top half. Lots of basketball left and hope I’m wrong. But right now, I don’t see it fellas! I’ll GLADLY eat crow

No guarantees, but if you were a fan of say, Iowa, 8-4 and 0-1 in conference, coming off a ten point loss to Eastern Illinois and with Kris Murray dealing with plantar fasciitis, would you think “yeah, I can count on finishing ahead of IU.”

What about Illinois? 0-2 in conference and 8-4 with a home loss to Penn St and team discontent. Are you thinking they’re better than IU with TJD returning?

Michigan? 7-4 with Llewelyn out for the year and a thin bench.

I’m not saying that IU is crushing it, but we don’t play in a vacuum.

Other than X’s injury we have some eminently fixable stuff and we have a notably better roster than last year with Bates, Kopp, and Gallo developing and JHS as a major addition.

I cannot disagree that Galloway has developed a nice shot which is crazy given where he was last year. My only issue with Galloway is that he completely disappears for games and especially on the road. I'd expect that from a Fr or even a So but he's a Jr and should be more consistent imo. I think he and Bates bringing offense on the road will be a major component of this team's success in conference.

I don’t think Galloway completely disappears.  His calling is defense and solid ball movement.

His calling is also energy, putting pressure on the defense.  Hitting threes, only makes him more dangerous. There's a reason Woody ran him in isos and PnR with Trayce , at end of shot/game clock in games last year. He creates a lot of problems, when he gets in the lane. Not always a good problem, but it seems his decision making is getting better.

X is a big part of our team, however the thought of running with JHS, Bates, Galloway, and CJ as our backcourt, is hopefully a good problem to have.

Was speaking more to the offensive component though I'd say all aspects of his game seem to diminish in some way or another when away from home. Just purely m.o. and I have no stats or anything substantive to back this up. Just purely how it seems to me from watching. And let me say he is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, players on this team.

I know Bates is a bit of a liability on defense but I am very happy to see him playing with swagger on offense. If he can continue on with this recent play then he has to be on the floor. Not many on this roster can do what he can on offense and therefore the staff needs to find away to simply minimize his defensive deficiencies. Well right now pretty much need to figure out how to minimize everyone's deficiencies excluding JHS who has continued to be great on that end.

If he can just keep up his hot hand from 3, he’ll raise our ceiling a bit. He was good in transition too.

Interesting question and probably would depend on each person as to who the top 10 most overrated teams would be.     For me you would have to start with Creighton who entered the year in the top 10 and have lost 6 straight and fell all the way out of top 25.   You could put the whole A-10 in there since they are currently a 1 bid league(St Louis, Dayton) probably the most overrated of the bunch since they were suppose to be competing for an at-large bid.    Notre Dame brought almost everyone back from a tourney team and have disappointed so it seams they were overrated.    Plenty more teams I could think of off the top of my head before I got to IU as one of the most overrated.    Losing to 2 projected #1 seeds away from home  and a road conference game doesn’t mean you are overrated it just means your team isn’t ready to compete for a top 3 seed.    But that just my opinion it might be someone else’s opinion that they are overrated

Started the season 13-14th and are now 16th. Sounds rated about right.

I can see your point there for sure. And no, I’m probably not making that comment had I known about the other B1G teams. Sorry guys, just don’t follow the sport outside of IUBB, like I used to. I guess you could say that I grew up and found more important things to be interested in?
