Agreed that Woody and staff did a great job with Mack. Self really had to play catch up with Liam, and so far he can't over come our long term dedication to him. Self did take Flory though and our staff really wanted him. HoosierTrav, lillurk, thebigweave and 2 others 5 Quote

We can bring a bag of money now too. NIL from that perspective was about the best thing for IU. It made it legal (so we would be comfortable doing it) to do the stuff those other blue bloods have been doing for 3 decades. We look to be in a spot where we are starting to get the recruits. If the wins follow, fans of other teams are going to start looking at who is recruiting a dude and think "sh*t" when they see that IU symbol on there. hoosierbgh, Chris007, Banksyrules and 12 others 14 1 Quote

I still say NIL is not what is helping but the collectives. So are most teams still cheating because programs aren't using NIL the way it is supposed to be ran. Are the Utah layers who are getting those trucks actually doing anything through NIL to earn that truck. Tom White 1 Quote

Hoosierfan1901 Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I was bored and did a little look around on the other teams forums, nothing on Alabama regarding him at all (the ones I have access too). UK’s Travis Branham thinks UK is still in the lead, but it seems like there is some doubt amongst the fans on Rupp Rafters. ALASKA HOOSIER, thebigweave, Dave from Dayton and 1 other 3 1 Quote

AZ Hoosier Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Wasn't UCLA the pioneer on cheating in the early 60's? I agree NIL has leveled the field a lot. No doubt cheaters will still cheat, but they have a steeper hill to climb now. Zion Williamson probably netted more at Duke than his first year in the NBA since it was tax-free bags of cash from the Duke. Yeah, the Utah guys took a page out of Sam Gilbert’s playbook. And the world sings John Wooden’s praises as the be-all end-all Wizard of Westwood. With those inducements, Mike Davis could go undefeated. Tom White and Hardwood83 2 Quote

The collectives pay the players for their name, image, likeness, etc. by having them do charity work, for example. All those Utes need to have done is something small like pose for a picture that goes on the dealers social, web, etc. Then if the dealership wants to give them a car for that appearance, it can. thebigweave 1 Quote

In the past Kansas would bring an Adidas rep along for those conversations, "If you come here we can get you $250K from Adidas." Now with NIL and the collectives they can still do that, but so can we. I think we maybe dipped our toe into that pool in the past. When the rules changed we did a cannonball into the pool. Hey recruits, we have one of the biggest and most passionate basketball fan bases in college basketball and here is what that means to your NIL. Our 13th guy on the bench made enough to pay off his sister's 4 year college debt in one year. It is likely those 2 walk ons we added this year (who could have gotten a scholarship somewhere else) probably still aren't paying for their school. We always had the crazy fans, the good atmosphere, and the basketball history. What we didn't have for most of the past 30 years was the bag of cash. Now we do. And that puts us right back into the desirable location to play ball as long as we make good coaching decisions. moyemayhem, jepwatso, Alford Bailey and 4 others 6 1 Quote
