If Beard ends up being the guy, we'd better put a similarly massive buyout in the contract should he ever leave for Texas.

With the concern about being away from his daughters. His 2 oldest daughters are in college now, per an article one goes to Columbia in New York. As his daughters get older location should become less of a concern I would think. Timing might be right.

Just posted this in the Oats thread but a couple days ago I posted that Beard before ultimately taking the job at TT had accepted the UNLV job. Vegas is 3 hours less of a drive than Bloomington is to Lubbock. Maybe location is all that matters to him but I think it may be a bit overblown. Right situation for him professionally may mean more especially if he still has plenty of opportunities to see his kids.

I keep reading that it would be too tough to pry Beard out of Texas -- but look at what the hell just happened. 

We supposedly went in lock, stock and barrel on a coach who grew up in Indiana, played college ball in Indiana and cut his coaching teeth in Indiana. Said he was a huge IU fan growing up. We were told his wife -- who also grew up in Indiana -- wanted to come home. And now? He's a Masshole and loves the Patriots, and either his wife's push to get back to Indiana wasn't enough -- or it was just a ruse. 

Home is where you hang your hat. If we make the right sale to Beard, who knows? Maybe something clicks when he's in Bloomington. Maybe he meets with "The General -- Robert Montgomery Knight" (just using that gadawful reference Vitale always used) who sells him on IU. Since he came back last season, I think it's safe to say RMK's bitterness has waned quite a bit. 

Beard seems to have a big personality -- unlike Bennett or Archie or Holtmann -- so I don't see the "fishbowl" that is IU as being a detriment. Maybe he realizes if he comes to B-town and succeeds, he'd be revered. I don't know much about Lubbock, but I would think when TT is playing well, they're all in, but when they're not -- they're sorta like "Meh." Until the past few years, nobody really knew a thing about Texas Tech basketball anyway. IU basketball has been a brand for years -- it's down a bit now, sure, but it can get back with the right person at the helm. Winning in B-town would be much, much different than doing so in Lubbock.

Beard was very close with RMK. Bobby undoubtedly told Beard the real, no holds barred truth as Bobby saw it.

I would imagine that truth went something like “I hate those mf-ers that run that university, but there is no better place to be a basketball coach.”

And he would know that those that ran him off are gone and the new crew tried for years to get him back. Pat will be an advocate for the job of Beard wants to come

I think playing in the tournament at Assembly Hall helped our chances with Beard immensely. It has to help put things in perspective for him.

Did you see the pratfall he did when complaining about a call a couple weeks back? I think it was against West Virginia -- got him ejected. Can you imagine if he did that at Assembly Hall? The place'd go nuts!

It certainly couldn't hurt for BIG refs to receive a bit of that ire directed at them on IU's behalf every once in a while.

Back channeling to Beard is probably one of the easier back channels for Dolson. Just call Pat Knight to be the intermediary.

Honestly as confident as Dolson seems to be I almost wonder if this didn’t already happen extensively and that’s the next step.

Reminds me of a certain former IU coach that Beard knows a thing or two about. He’s not an “IU guy,” but he’s a “Bob Knight guy,” and that’s just as good, imo.

If I were a betting man I’d put money down Beard is announced within 72 hours of TT being eliminated. I highly doubt Dolson and company have only been talking to Stevens over the past month. The way Beard spoke about Assembly Hall, the connection to Knight, and his “I don’t talk about other jobs” answer when asked about IU I think would have all been considered serious smoke had we not been chasing Brad so feverishly. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s my gut.
