General Coach Candidate News

Recommended Posts

I think reality is setting in now. IU is nearly a big ten bottom feeder. We had some luster left when Crean came in and re-enerized everything. It's all gone now. We aren't a sleeping giant. If all that resource, and fans, and venue meant ANYTHING at this point, we wouldn't be at this point. The only people it means anything to are the people like we have here on this board. We are hopeless romantics with IU basketball.

Alford is all of a sudden not looking as bad(edit: I forgot he seems uninterested...spurned by the golden boy). Drew is about the best candidate we have and besides coming home, there is nothing for him at IU.

I guess we are reduced to just taking another shot at an up and comer.

And so I'm right back to my original thought. A proven TM/JB is probably a marginally better decision than Woodson/Lewis/Fife/Porter.

And finally, if behind the scenes we are truly failing at these negotiations, IU needs to call the interim audible and take the year to get it right. I'll take 1 year if it means actual homerun. It couldn't be any worse than the garbage basketball we just watched.

'Le sigh

RUMOR OF THE DAY: a guy on rivals is saying there will be an announcement tomorrow and a press conference on Thursday. He’s saying it’s Alford!

the women's game is tomorrow. I would be surprised if they announced anything then

Tell me again why everyone is talking about Woodson? It's not like Dolson said he was meeting with him or anything? For all we know I have the same chance of being the next coach.  Patience is a virtue.

Someone posted earlier that it's Beilein or Woodson and will likely be announced this week. Also Rothstein (I think) tweeted that IU is focusing on former players. Probably a few other odds & ends.

I'm with you. I am not surprised by the wild rumors and herd mentality, I am a little surprised at so many are insisting we just hire (_____________) immediately and be done with it, as if we get extra credit for a quick move. I don't want a quick hire, I want the right hire and most of the people mentioned here don't fit that in my opinion. I don't want any of the former IU players, nor a mid-major darling. I want a proven winner and that may take some time. Took us a long time to get in to this mess, not gonna get fixed in 5 days.

Sure--you're describing something that would be excellent if it happened.

My question is--if Stevens, Beard, Oats, Musselman, Drew, etc. all say "no thanks" then what?

BTW, it's not your plan, but the 'wait a year' concept is ridiculous IMO. Do we really think that after a year of Kenya Hunter or Mike Roberts as interim coach the job will be more attractive? It will be far less attractive, and the recruiting will truly be decimated

Gonna root for success regardless of who it is.  I don’t care if it’s for love or money who comes here as long as they succeed.

I hope if it is Woodson, that Michael Lewis could be brought in as the associate head coach.  He knows the college game and recruiting.

100% on the waiting a year concept.  That’s a killer.

Beilein could get us to the final four in four years and then retire. Which would mean we are still looking for a new coach in four years.

I'll take it if it means we go to a final 4 and I also think Beilein would give us at least 6 years.

wasn't saying I wouldn't take it. Was saying it's not either/or like he stated

Yeah he gone.

Um. No.

It’s more so just to explore options, to build relationships. It’s not, ‘I’m out of IU.’ That’s not the message we want to send to anybody.”

Armaan Franklin enters portal, wants to meet with next IU coach as part of process:

The tweet is just horribly written.

Big IF, but it's simple you make your list and work the way down until you get a "yes".

If Dolson puts forth an effort and the best we get is Mike Woodson or some 34 yr old from the Sun Belt conference  then we have our answer. IU is a football school now and no amount of money will fix it. Lower our expectations and accept mediocrity.

Thankfully I don't expect that outcome.

Oh please.

Eric Mussleman is texting him right now from the Sweet 16. "Justin loves it here, you'll love it here and you'll start!"

"Would you rather play for me or for that old fart Mike Woodson?"

Thank God for football.
