General Coach Candidate News

Recommended Posts

I'm not inclined to support the idea of McCollum as head coach.

While he may be a great tactician, there is so much more to the IU job in particular and high-major college basketball in general that he has no experience with. And I am more interested in the number of possible candidates who have proven he can handle all the other responsibilities that are part of running a successful high-major program.

McCollum could be great, but I'm not excited about IU being his testing ground.

Not my first choice either but light years ahead of Brownell or McDermott.

Glad we have to wait for Iowa to make their pick at coach before we can decide. How the mighty have fallen

Also if Iowa is going after DeVries over Golden boy then why should we be so excited about getting McCollum?

Tempo and never being a part of a power program. Cig had experience with Saban at Alabama and a few other places. I'm not against McCollum but I'm far from convinced he's the next great championship winning coach.
If he is honestly as great as some on here claim I fully expect him to be playing in the second weekend of the tournament. Can't wait to watch this coaching savant on Thursday. I am expecting to be in complete amazement of his coaching abilities after what I have read.

Alright BTB Nation: flights from Teterboro are incoming to Bloomington, Clark County, and Indy Regional this afternoon.

Who lives nearby and is going to tell us who gets off?

If by Indy regional in Mt Comfort I live about 8 miles from there but I am at work

He may be the best IU can do IMO

I agree. I used to love coming to this place but it’s changed so much. This search has taught me a lot about people in here. It’s the same people over and over. As I said contribute nothing and complain about everything. At least I’ve made some new friends along the way.

From my absolutely limited vantage point:

There are people like yourself, Jerry, RTZ etc who tell us what you know that I think 99%+ of this board appreciates.

Then there are people like Isaac, and others, who make definitive claims that are most likely purely trolling.

You’d hope that people could differentiate between the two but sadly the negative Nancie’s around here just dump you all into one because at some point people thought it was cool to be negative/contrarian/skeptical etc.

Long story short: 90%+ of this thread is hot garbage, the only true value comes from people like yourself sharing what you hear and I for one appreciate it, even if it’s mainly for entertainment purposes.

For me, it’s too extreme to put that much stock in a single elimination tournament.  Still quite a bit of luck that gets tossed into it.  The body of work is more critical, imo, as any team can get insanely hot with the right draw.  And then you could be stuck in their way.  Us against Syracuse would be one that comes to mind.  I am not saying he is the man or not, but either side trying to pull a gotcha from a single - single elimination tourney is more looking for ammo than outcomes.

So... he is literally coaching a DII team this year. In his interview he said that he put the roster together not expecting short-term success. To boot, Texas Tech's coach (who Drake would face in the next round) credits McCollum for remaking McCasland's offensive system. I'm not going to hold Drake's results against him this year, regardless of who IU hires.
