If you are talking about in season, then Yes, but there is a bunch of legal stuff behind it since it would be considered a breach of contract and some other legal stuff. But I believe the NCAA prohibits it during in-season.

Following up on this, It was allegedly that Pitino did this when he went to Louisville. Signed a contract with Louisville during the regular season at UK.

Supposedly, Lincoln Riley did the same thing in 2021 with USC.

All the logic is with Bozich here as much as we don’t like to hear it.

Actually, the logic is against him. It’s not that Brownell is a bad coach. It’s that he has had a long career and nothing in it shows he is ready for IU. If he wasn’t from Indiana, no way he’d be in the discussion. So, if it ends up being Brownell, it’s against all basketball logic. And I just don’t think Dolson will make such a bad hire. There’s a reason why Brownell is the most hated name being discussed. I’m not saying Dolson should crowd source this hire. But you don’t get rid of Woodson to hire Brownell.

We are watching dusty go for a big ten tournament championship in year 1. A guy we probably could have gotten last season. We passed for woodson! Now we are going to hire a just ok coach? Do not hire anyone unless it is a homerun!

Ok guys.  Help a girl understand.  What are the strong reactions against Brad Brownell and all the love for Ben McCollum about?
I get Brownell hasn’t got to the tournament much at all, but he has been at flipping Clemson.  He has had, count them, 1 losing record at a football school deep in ACC country which used to be arguably the best conference in basketball.  IU is not too big for him.  McCollum has been in D2.  How do we know he can handle this job?  He is a huge risk.

Yes, McCollum is a risk.

Brownell= mediocre and adequate.  We know his ceiling.

McCollum= possible boom or bust.  He ceiling is unknown, but many speculate it could be very high.

You guys literally don’t know who the next coach is and are calling SD bad haha

We do this every time.  News starts to break...we say it must be a smokescreen.  Has to be...no one could possibly be this stupid.  Then bam a little later we get the Osterman tweet with confirmation.  It will be Brownell.  The program is finished.

People keep saying this. Doesn’t make any sense to me. One thing has nothing to do with the other…

The psy-op worked on me. Because of the Brownell threat I am now thrilled about this possibility.

Exactly this... there's a 4-step process:

  1. Hype the big dogs (Stevens, Donovan, Wright, Few, Drew, OTZ)... whip up the fan base
  2. Now hype the "desperation hires" (Brownell, Turgeon)
  3. Now the fan base will accept almost anyone that is not one of the "desperation hires" and be grateful/relieved
  4. Wait 4 years, and repeat

Works almost every time.

You do if you're okay with Woodson's results but don't like that Woodson thinks he doesn't answer to you and doesn't do many of the things required of the coach.
