This year is his true test. They will say he isn't tom allen but the Allen love was the same after the covid year. Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk Now we’re hating on Cig?? We really don’t deserve to have anything good as a fan base. Some of you are just unhappy people at your core. “True test” as if he isn’t the greatest thing to happen to IU football in history. Even if he wins just 6 games, it’s still better and more consistent than anything we’ve ever done. JustWinBaby, rayl456, DSUMMITT and 24 others 19 8
Alford Bailey Posted March 13 Posted March 13 It may be McCollum but at least Drake is in the tournament and maybe IU so it’s another week minimum til any announcement lillurk 1

But looking at Drake and saying not long doesn't prove it one way or another. Looking at their roster, they have a bunch of seniors. It might not take long since good coaches tend to be good teachers, after all, or it might take a year or two. Probably no one on this board knows the answer, which is fine. Why would anyone here have paid too much attention to him at the D2 level? It took him until his 3rd year at NW Missouri State to win 20+ games, same as Hurley at URI and UConn. He continued getting better at that level and built some very good teams which he retained the cores of. This group he took with him may have been the best core he ever put together. Stirtz is a nice piece. If he can retain some of the guys on this roster and get some transfers from the programs with coaches people pine for over him - who also happen to praise him and have strong relationships with (McCasland at TTU, Williams at A&M, Smart at Marquette)... you can see him having a serviceable roster in Y1. Still plenty of valid question marks/obvious risks. We'll see how quickly kids learn his system and if he's able to retain them / use the portal effectively. I'm comfortable with the risks personally. Excited to see what he can do with our NIL and HS recruiting. JustWinBaby, IUGRAD06, go iu bb and 4 others 6 1

HoosierInParadise Posted March 13 Posted March 13 So I guess the UK job is no longer attractive since they got turned down by top coaches and settled for Pope who.had never won a tournament game. That's why I am admitting that I don't understand the current college basketball landscape. I'm admitting it's a trend that I don't understand. But I do believe what I said as far as what it communicates to me as a fan and the program I follow.

Pagoda Posted March 13 Posted March 13 26 minutes ago, Kentuckysucks said: I'd give Cig another season before you crown him. We played 2 good teams all season and got torched both times. He was also able to bring a bunch of his JM guys with him. Just reminds me of Tom Allen's covid year where we didn't beat a single team that finished in the top 25 and he got a near $40M buyout for it then the wheels came off. Many of us called it at the time. Expect a lot of 7-5 finishes from Cig which is certainly fine. Two “good” teams? It’s pretty tough playing national champ and runner-up on the road. We were in year one of our new coach and they had 3-5x more NIL than IU. Those games got away from us, but it’s pretty understandable. OSU was smashing everyone. Our margins of victory was pretty darn good too vs the bad and mediocre teams. Agree seven win type seasons are good. Hopefully we can do even better. Just becoming a midpack team in the conference would be amazing. JustWinBaby, Lebowski, Over 100 Games and 2 others 5

Get in the box take a swing and hope we are not doing this 4 years down the road. If true breath of fresh air an actual college basketball coach will be in charge of the program. History told people the most likely outcome was a coach from a lower level. An actual on court blue blood program swung and missed on their other sitting power 5 coaches and had to hire a coach that just made the jump to the Big 12 but was a mid major coach his whole time before that without a tourney win.
