Under .600 in P4 conferences for his career? Facial Hair is so overrated based on the 2 seasons at TT he's been unable to come close to replicating. He sure knows how to pad his season win percentages in the nonconference, though.

I don't believe IU will hire him.

76-66 in conference. That's 53% winning in conference.

For context, Woody is 51.3% in conference, though admittedly at a place where it should be easier to win.

This I can agree with.

Listening through some basketball podcasts over the last 3 weeks, one of the key metrics for winning it all is offensive efficiency. There are a few outliers but all but like 3ish national champions had top 5 offenses on Kenpom. The outliers were still top 25. But the defensive efficiencies were also top 25, most top 10. So to me it’s more important to have an offensive minded head coach than defensive. But the defense needs to still be top 25 on kenpom.

There was an article that was shared here from over a year ago which was talking about Danny Hurley's recruiting philosophy. He basically said he recruits players for their offense since offensive is what wins championships.

I am surrounded by family and acquaintances that either put people in jail, or work with people with addictions.  It's an interesting time at our gatherings.  The one thing both sides agree on is, almost everyone has a rock bottom moment that will change their lives and stop the bad behaviors for good.  Beard seems to be a great father, hard worker and probably will never screw up again, because he has way too much to lose.

Mark Few has been named here as a choice for our coach.  What if he would have killed someone when he got his DUI.  Luckily he didn't but he did the crime and he probably was scared sh!tless and won't do it again.  What about Izzo and how his assistant coach abused women and how some of his players apparently did the same?  Why was he forgiven for not being smart enough to see what was right in front of him.  I don't know, but I do believe in second chances,   because people do hit rock bottom and change their lives.

Saying all that,  Beard is a great coach,  not my choice for IU, but I just happen to prefer others.  My social working family members explain things to me,  and my prosecuting side actually do believe in second chances.  That's all, and probably too long for anyone to read.   So, Brad Stevens, come on down!

And don't forget drew is too religious. People can find something wrong with anyone if they want. Especially those that live to judge other people they do not know or have ever met. Most of us do believe in second chances but we have a percentage of people who do not. I hope for their sake they are never falsely accused or something like that given the no second chance stance.

For sure!

That's why the interviewing and vetting process is so key.

Because someone actually could be 'too religious', chemically dependent, or abusive. But, an effective vetting process will shed great light on whether there is even an issue, or whether a prior issue may may no longer be an issue.

Beard is dominating the general thread to the point that he needs his own. Let's steer that discussion over this way if you'ns don't mind.

Hasn’t even been hired yet and he’s already dominating!

Opinions are generally judgement calls based upon information that is not comprehensive.  Have you met any of the candidates in this process?

I can only compare this to hockey as that is the only sport I played at a high level (post high school, pre-IU), but offensive instincts and stick work skills are much harder to teach and get better by the time someone is 18, but defensive philosophy is much more teachable to "adults" assuming they buy in. Scorer's score, and it starts at really young age. Kids get typecast positionally into forward or defense much younger in hockey than in other sports in my experience (think like 10-12 years old at the AAA travel level). Often by the time they are at an age where all five players need to understand and execute defensively, they are terrible at it lol-- but it can be taught. Spacing and being in the right place on offense is much more instinctual. Id imagine high level basketball is similar.

Thanks for listening, back to arguing.

I played as well, and on my experience the positioning started at the pee wee or squirt level (no one else here will even know what that means lol). I was a center from the age of 5 on.... We didn't get all 5 D buy in until HS
