General Coach Candidate News

I understand the hesitation with Beard because of his personal issues he may have outside of being a basketball coach. On the other side of all that, the thing that intrigues me about him being the coach compared to others on the list is that IU is clearly his destination dream job that he would crawl to get to. People who want a job that bad would do a heck of a job at making sure they’re a success. Like I said, i understand not wanting him and agree with those points, but there comes a time where why would you want to have to continue to beg and bribe a coach to want to come here when you could have a solid guy who dreams of having the job….are there better candidates? Absolutely…but I wouldn’t be upset if we ended up with Beard (even though I doubt it’d end up happening).

Actually he was fired for cause from his dream job

Let’s say for a minute it’s not Stevens and it’s not an active college coach

It's so obvious people.  Our next head coach will be Armond Hill who is currently the most inactive coach around.

If you think Woodson isn’t connected to the players, coaches, BOT and Donors I don’t know what to tell you.
where do you think some of the info that hits this board comes from?

Absolutely.

Woodson is extremely close with both Ferguson and Cindy SS.

mean…he’s either producing in a big time conf. at a school with more home fans than IU or he’s at a small school who would be elevated by IUs resources. He can’t really be both.

My opinion he is producing in a big time conference.   Conference realignment doesn’t make sense for most but they are the example of doing it right.   They had out grown the MVC as a basketball program. They made the move to the Big East and he has turned them into a national brand for the Big East.  School might be small but the basketball program is a legit.    when he does leave for whatever reason I expect it to be a job the will attract really good coaches

You act like he coaches in a conference with the two time defending national champion.

I'm all for Beard getting the job but to be fair he had his dream job at Texas and screwed it up. IU may be dream job #2 though.

Yeah true, I wasn’t thinking about Texas being his dream job. I guess I was just basing my comment off how nowadays he and his agent seem to be pushing for wanting the job.

Beard is one of the few that has appeared to communicate he would love the IU job. I can’t think of another candidate that might’ve expressed that desire. Maybe Pearl indirectly.

But on the flip side….the obvious.

I think I’m with you on that. I really don’t know how to quantify some of these BE schools, especially the Marquettes and Creightons, in this new pay the players world. Under the old system we likely wouldn’t even be realistically talking about him leaving his current spot for our rebuild. But it’s a new world.

OTOH, the basketball only schools seem to keep coming up with enough money to field good rosters. These are tough to handicap, imo, and quite literally why Dolson makes the big bucks and gets the good seats.

I’ve heard they are worried about senior day because he’s told people he wants to tell his side.

He thinks he's going to find a sympathetic ear in the crowd of fans who wanted him fired? Funny.

He probably has language in his "retirement" paperwork about what he can't say about IU. It would be hilarious if they let him talk himself out of the money he would get at senior day. I kind of hope they let him have his say and it is his side but he gets booed by the fans there and voids the money. That would be epic.

Why revive something from 8 hours ago that’s already been put to bed? “Proving a point” in your head? …

Because I wasn’t here 8 hours ago…

But yes doing exactly that lol.

Woodson found out there's more than just getting the high priced guys.  You still have to gel a team and you still needs nucleus for the additions to gravitate towards.  If anything that was one of Woodson's main issues IMO.  The team took too long to develop, and it may not have had he not had the luxury of not caring who gets pissed about PT and leaves after this year.

While I tend to agree here, Woody is clearly either living in pure delusion or make it as painful as possible mode. It is clear from multiple games since the refiring he is willing to say anything to be seen in a sympathetic light, and is not telling these guys “off the record.” If he gets up and tries to do the they done me wrong song and dance he’s going to get boo’d off the court and he will deserve it. My guess is he doesn’t, but keeps talking to any media ear that will listen to paint IU and the fanbase in a poor light.

It would be more valid and more acceptable if he hadn't crapped his pants at every turn... he needs to be done here ASAP, no sympathy ... and get the next guy in here... Stevens, Drew, Otz, Few, Lloyd, whoever it is...

Marquette is a top spender in college basketball.   They have a ton of money for basketball.   There was a story that their assistant coaches used private jets to go to some recruiting events and the head coach wasn’t even on them.   During the Garcia recruitment it was brought up.  Some of the high level programs don’t let their assistants do that without the coach.   Their private so their true spending cannot be tracked I don’t think

Well I’m pretty sure that Ferguson hasn’t been talking about Greg McDermott.

You don’t think Ferguson and/or Cindy SS are privy to what is going on behind the scenes lol? Even if they aren’t directly talking to or about McDermott. Good lord.

Oh I know they are. I talked about it a couple of times earlier today and as I said it had nothing to do with McDermott.

I spoke to a UT alum today … I didn’t realize that Beards fiancé/girlfriend at the time also had her issues. (Im not excusing him whatsoever, but sounds like she had some things to work on as well)

While that wasn't a secret, neither does it excuse DV. But I'm done talking about that or Chris Beard.

BTW, my son is a 20+ year veteran of the Phoenix Police. To a man/woman, no call puts them more on edge than a DV call... ugly situations that are extremely unpredictable, for the abuser, the victim and the police.
