General Coach Candidate News

My guess is Beard may (or may not) have been on the list of backup plans and she drew a line through his name. No need to even contact him, sort of thing.

People need to get over this.  Louisville and Kentucky didn’t hire him and writers have said there is more out there on him that schools hear.  Just think about it….dude couldn’t handle the Texas job….Indiana would eat him alive. He is Billy G.

Sounds like to me Dolson may have a verbal agreement with someone already to be our next HC (which would be a great sign)

If he were to have been rejected by multiple candidates, then he would be reaching out to multiple agents to gauge interest in if their client would have interest to become next HC at IU. There are too many people in that communication chain for nothing to be leaked out. We haven't really heard any official names or anyone turn the job down at this point. I don't see him waiting until the end of the season to starting lining up the succession plan. He will want the next HC to be announced as early as possible so they can start recruiting and preparing for the portal.

To me this shows he has been working on this undercover and not involving too many people. If he has an agreement already, then we must have gotten one of our top targets , if not, the top target. Dolson is not dumb, I trust his ability to find the right fit for IU.

In my opinion, the most likely scenario is that Dolson does not have his guy, but that he does have a strong list of top (maybe 3-5) candidates that he is extremely confident he has the resources to land and maybe even has back-channel high interest from a couple.

The telephone game has probably turned that into "Dolson has his guy" by the time that info has gotten to places like this and other fan message boards, etc.

Are you sure you're not Sam Story? I'm just messing with you. I appreciate you always bringing back to reality whether I agree or not

I know one coach Dolson has contacted and his name has been mentioned.  It has gone eerily quiet which could mean they have someone locked up that’s higher than him or it could be him.

I don’t have enough money to think about how I would donate in a coaching search but I don’t get the “only for Brad” thought. Now, maybe I’d give more for Brad. But if I’m willing to donate big money, I’d be willing to donate for several other coaches to turn this ship around instead of an all or nothing approach. Maybe I’m reading too much into this, though. But when my best donation is a Laurel and Hearty handshake, they just pat me on the head and make sure I don’t eat clay.

Would you want to commit a million dollars a year for 10 years so IU could hire Archie Miller or Mike Woodson?

So RTZ sources have been saying it's Brad for a while. But he also has a friend who is big in the world of CBB and yesterday he met with him to see what he was hearing. So basically the national media is not hearing anything about the IU job and just throwing out the same usual names.

....soooo, "as of right now, loose lips aren't sinking ships?" lol!!

It is the job of the President and BoT to protect the image, brand, and reputation of Indiana University, a huge multi-billion $ institution.
Fair or unfair, the public perception alone (details in a police report or investigation don't matter) of some candidates could damage IU's image/brand/rep and it's within Pam and the Board's purview to get involved in such situations.  I don't consider this materially meddling in the process.

Unless the proposed coach is a clueless hack with zero experience.

So in terms of time frame...

If IU doesn't make the NCAA tournament, and it's someone not currently coaching (Brad, Wright, Bennett), we should know in approximately 3 weeks.

If IU does make the NCAA Tournament, and it's someone not currently coaching, we should know within a couple days after IU gets eliminated.

If it's someone who is currently coaching (e.g., Otz, Drew, etc.), then we should know within a couple days of their team being eliminated (assuming IU's season has also ended by that point).

Any way you slice it,  we're looking at close to three more weeks of uncertainty, at a minimum.

No shade whatsoever. Sometimes we might live in the dream world and you live more in the real world.

I just hope the dream world becomes the real world this year. But no matter what were getting a good coach.

100%! Incredibly confident IU will have a good coach, program building coach next season.
