The whole “fans are the problem” argument is laughable and a cop-out. I will die on this mountain because if fans are a problem, then UK, UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCONN, and a few others would be in the same situation as we are.

It all lies at the administrations feet for bad hires, or coaches just not adapting to the evolution of the game. Woodson was an awful hire, and the fans have nothing to do with that failure. Archie was a failure but was not a terrible hire.

The failures of of the last two coaches have nothing to do with the fans. It’s laughable to suggest fans are the problem.

Wait... are you saying that Mike Woodson lied to us? For shame!

Been going back and forth in my head…

What would be better?

A world where Brad is coach and still have to compete against Dusty every year?

Or Dusty is our coach and we don’t have to compete against Brad? Lol

I think I'd take having Stevens and going against May, not that I think that'll happen.

Stevens is a grand slam that sends shockwaves through basketball. May could end up being good and is off to a good start, but he ultimately fares is TBD.

I will do you all a favor a leave this board

This board is like a cult and the insiders are Jim Jones and and the others are the followers. If you question the leaders then the followers jump anyone who question the cult

Have fun in fantasy land

All this Cronin talk has me worried….it’s like we are being conditioned!

If Mick turns out to be our new coach I would be disappointed.  The Bearcats can have him back.  They deserve each other.

Fun to think about regardless. I like May a lot and think he’s going to be really good.

We could do a lot worse.  He’d have us in the top 20 almost every year.  I do have concerns about his ceiling but he’s a very safe hire if Dusty says no.

Doyle, who is seldom right about anything, is shilling for him….yes he would be an upgrade over Woody and Archie, not sure how much better he is than Crean. I find him a very un-exciting hire.

This isn’t the airport.  You don’t have to announce your departure

Over under on when he’s back?  :)

So, see you Tuesday-ish? Unfortunately, probably sooner.

I’m with you. It’s embarrassing and a bad joke that this many people believe any of this crap and that so many are willing to parse words of an obviously “not interested” statement to delude themselves into believing what their fragile egos want them to believe. No wonder we can’t have nice things as a program.  Good bye and good luck.

We're a crappy basketball program because of what fans on a message board say?

If people post things you think are false, that's fine. Feel free to say so. But if other people choose to believe it, how does that harm you? You don't need to trash people for that.

If people wanna believe in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny -- what effect does that have on you? If people wanna believe that Brad Stevens and Scott Dolson visited the "Breaking Bad" set or that Stevens is gonna sign a contract in early March -- what effect does that have on you? If you don't believe any of those things, fine. But you don't need to sh-t on others because they do.

Lol, nicely done! That will go down as one of the worst quotes in IU basketball history imo. Calling the majority of the fan base not true fans because we don’t like less than mediocre results and coaching.

The fans aren't the problem, too many bad coaching hires is. If the fans were the problem then UK would be a raging dumpster fire, those fans would've rioted after hiring Woodson and burned the campus to the ground after year 4 was announced.

Cronin isn't the worst option, but with his buyout I have no interest. If we paid that buyout for someone like Cronin then we have decision makers that need therapy (if not a padded cell).

Respectfully disagree, but I get being un-excited for Cronin. On paper, the similarities between him and Crean largely begin and end with both having made 4 S16s, with 1 turning into a F4 trip. However:

  • Cronin: 21 seasons, has made the tournament 14 times. Other than the COVID year where tournament was cancelled, Cronin made the tournament every year from 2010- the year before last. And this year he has UCLA back rolling. Career record 498-230 (.684)
  • Crean: 22 seasons, made the tournament 9 times. From 2005-2008 he made 3 consecutive NCAA tourneys, the rest of his career he went to back to back tourneys 3 times. So he could not sustain success. Career record 403-306 (.568)

Cronin is 53, Crean is 58. There is a reason one is still coaching and the other isn't. Cronin is a markedly better coach IMO, albeit not the most exciting by a longshot.

The odds of finding a coach to win multiple national titles is slim to none. It's difficult to win in the tournament. If we get a coach that has us in the big10 title race and in the NCAA tournament every single year...that's better than anything this program has seen in 25 years.

As I have stated the tournament is a numbers game.  Need a coach you can get there consistently — basically every year, or 9 of 10 at least.  Then if he gets to the second weekend on a regular basis, you got your man.  It is a lot of “luck” to go from there.  More times you’re in, more likely to break thru.

I’m pretty sure truth hurts is NGW. I put a trap out last night but they didn’t take the bait. But the post style is the same and quit and leave a lot a like.

Who is NGW?
