Dolson is a very talented and experienced basketball guy. So while I don’t think it’ll be Beard, if it is that means our very smart basketball AD fully vetted his personal issues. If it’s Wade? That means our very smart basketball AD fully vetted his NCAA issues. If it’s McCollum? That means our very smart basketball AD fully vetted his D1 inexperience issues. This is how I feel. I have like 1% to 5% of the information Scott has. I've never interviewed these coaches to understand: (i) their personality, (ii) why they have become successful, (iii) how they would translate from their current job to IU, (iv) what their vision is for the program, (v) what resources they want, and (vi) what comes up in their background check and references. Nor do I really know what coach profile would succeed at IU. I've never observed behind the scenes how Archie and Tom struggled, or what Kelvin got right when we was here, or how Cig operates. I haven't spoke with other ADs to learn from their hiring successes and mistakes. It's a cheap out, but I can't take a strong position on most coach candidates because I just don't know. There are maybe a few pretty obvious homeruns and duds, but for most candidates I'm not sure, so I've got to trust Scott gets it right. Fingers crossed. Past history shows these would be “no’s.” Let’s see what happens…I have a feeling Dolson is getting a good one here. I would love to be wrong and we can get a TJO or Drew. I would have Stevens first but that probably is a huge long shot
Hoosierfan2017 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 4 minutes ago, Stuhoo said: Maybe he can be great at it. He has zero resume for doing it though. That’s why the vetting process for a guy like Stevens would be less critical and the vetting process for McCollum would be incredibly critical. You’d have to get very far down the candidate list before vetting him would make sense. If IU gets that far down the list, well, that says everything about the state of the program.

Bunch of other failures on that list as head coaches. Coaches with RMK connections have failed more than succeeded. Also, Beard's team culture is not the same at Knight's. He just coached him with for a brief time, like dozens of others who have mostly failed. Most coaches fail regardless of coaching tree. Anything connected to Bob Knight is a non sequitur.

Under the coming revenue sharing model and the 20.5M cap, NIL collectives will be more closely monitored to be certain players are “earning” their NIL so as to not to work around the cap. It will put a damper on some of the monies by collectives that have been funneled to players as pay for play. *wink wink* Looks good on paper... DSUMMITT 1

JPCIVOP Posted March 8 Posted March 8 25 minutes ago, Hoosierfan2017 said: There isn’t a “uniquely Indiana” culture. The Indiana culture was really just Bob Knight culture. The past 25 years have shown that IU is just another school without Knight. So, if you want to bring back that culture, bring back a coach with a Bob Knight mentality. Not saying that’s the perfect move to make, but that’s Beard. I'm going to disagree a little here; Knight would have won anywhere, won titles anywhere. But there is a way that Indiana - as a state - has a unique basketball culture. 'Hoosiers' isn't just a fiction. In the Big Ten, there isn't another state where basketball means more. Knight tapped into that, but it runs deeper than him. Hoosierfan2017, theriverpilot and Hoosier Roots 3

Bob Knight was many things, but he wasn’t soft, he wasn’t a pushover, and his teams weren’t either. That’s what a “uniquely Indiana” culture is. A full-on Knight mentality wouldn’t work today. But all you have to do is watch the Pitino video from earlier this year and St. John’s results to see that it still works today. Teams take on the personality of their coach.
