This is kind of been how I thought things would happen. Stevens says no, but by no means are we missing out if we end up with Drew or May. Both of those two are really good coaches who can do great things at IU. I’ve always been hopefully Stevens would come to IU, but just can’t bring myself to get hyped or excited about it. 
 

Landing one of those 3 is a huge win for IU.

Ha, no way.  With FB doing well, Scott is set, that sport drives everything in the athletic dept.  Scott has setup IU to bring in tens of millions more in revenue, and last year the school was showcased on GameDay and Big Noon and other shows like it never has before.

And for the 1,000th time, Scott didn't hire Woody so he isn't held responsible.  Scott just got an extension and raise in May 2024, he isn't going anywhere.

That thought has crossed my mind.  It'd be a sure-fire way to tamp down rumors about progress with other coaches.  Just slip out some little tidbit about Stevens and everyone will immediately focus on that.

And that’s the funny thing to me.  Move on from Brad.  But not Cronin, Drew, Beard, etc.  Why?  There’s only one guy getting the job, and all the rest of them aren’t.  So why is there only one he can’t talk about?

I think it's because he doesn't want the topic of Brad Stevens to continue to dominate the conversations. He doesn't have any info on Stevens so he needs to be able to talk about other possibilities....otherwise the conversations will be short with little information shared.

I don't think dolson ever "had his guy". That was pure speculation imo. Stebens was always a long shot at best

I have said this before, but to me it is really important to reinforce and emphasize:

• The coaching search is fun
• Winning the press release and initial press conference is NOT the goal.
• Getting a big name whose naming makes our rivals sad is NOT the goal.
• Being right or getting a candidate that makes any of us think "Yesssss!" is NOT the goal.

• The goal is to find a coach that wins a ton of games for an extended tenure and makes us proud of the performance and culture of the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team. And that goal could be accomplished by hiring:
  • A big, big name like Stevens or Drew, or
  • A less big name like Collins, McCollum, Schertz, McCasland, Byington, Luke Murray, Alex Barlow, etc, etc., etc.

Again, if Stevens is his #1 and he gets him then it all works out. I have heard from a few people that he had done little work on backup plans 4 years ago and while not confirmed yet by any means, it appears little is being done again if you believe what is being said ie. No activity with agents 

as we found 4 years ago, you have to have multiple people ready to say yes to be safe and avoid 4 years of misery, not just one 

I will say if it is true that Stevens said no on Friday the 14th (Not sure I believe yet) and Dolson let Dusty sign the extension a week later that is not a good sign.

Not sure if he has screwed anything up this go around, it’s possible he’s killing it. We will find out after the fact how it all shook out and I don’t just mean what coach we ended up

Got a lot of respect for Sam, I just disagree. Like i said Scott has been working this. No way brad waits all the time to then say no thanks on the first meeting. And add what Chris said, if that really happened, we would have told Dusty's agent he's our guy and we have money coming to him do the extension wouldn't happen. Until Jerry or Rtz(i think they are more connected than anyone else) come in and say brad is a no, i am on the brad train. regardless of them i am still hearing we are in a good spot. I look forward to see what happens.

The far and away most logical reason why May signed that extension is because...

He really, really wants to be the Michigan Head Coach for a very long time.
