All Rabby said was there’s soft chatter about those two names. That could literally mean anything lol

Are Rabby's connections with Woodson and the coaching staff or Dolson?  I believe Rabjohns was the one that floated the rumors on Dane's firing.

C’mon Chris. Isn’t it so obvious?! There is no noise because the process hasn’t started yet. Kathy’s intel has told us that the process won’t start until the season has officially ended. Therefore, no soft chatter to be heard and hence the reason that Dolson isn’t talking to anyone yet. He doesn’t want to get fired by Quinn for starting the process before IU allows him too.

First off I get so tired of his use of soft chatter, my intel and things like that.
Also does he not find it weird that there not much noise of Dolson really talking to anyone yet?

Peegs also updated the hotboard yesterday and in it 6/10 candidates they said that there wasn’t any mutual interest lol

brownell, beard, few… Is Trilly qualified to say that with 100% certainty?

I will add this as well, even if Dolson thinks Stevens or someone else is 100%, with over a month to go, he would be an idiot not to be talking to agents etc of multiple candidates. Fool Dolson once, hopefully not twice

If he values his job as much as he loves IU I gotta think he has multiple feelers out and has for over a year. I also tend to believe Woody would be vindictive behind the scenes and negative recruit the job and Dolson. I cannot imagine a world where they are on speaking terms. So I think that speaks to a very tight lipped search.

I do wonder if the "search firm" is for no other reason than vetting Beard. Not sure how much "vetting" you need for a Stevens, May, Drew, Otz type of hire (I know they do more than that, im just saying). Dolson has to have known Dusty was a no long before the news of an extension dropped, so it really makes me curious where he has been in contact since Dusty off the board seriously ratchets up the pressure on him IMO.  Assuming Stevens was always a no, our search started on guy number 3? The whole thing is strange to me so far honestly.

It looks like everyone had another rousing Chris Beard session last night that went absolutely nowhere, so I will say this for Beard to try and nuance the stance:

While morally, I am dubious on him and I seriously doubt he would get through a vetting process (he would live in Kentucky somewhere right now if he could, which is probably the most damning evidence), but if he was hired, I would trust that Dolson did his DD and was comfortable with the hire. Because if he melted down somehow, Dolson would also go down with the ship. Is that a risk Dolson is willing to make? No one knows.

I don't have to agree with the hire to root for the team. The bottom line is we are not talking 5-10% of the fanbase that would be upset with the hire. Our poll here even showed its closer to 50-50. A Beard hire would fracture the fanbase from the word go, and beyond the incident, that fact would probably give Dolson pause. Winning probably helps cure it, but reality is many--  myself included would be uncomfortable if not disgusted. Call me holier than thou, a *****, judgmental, etc., I care not, and that's all I have to say about that. Not rehashing what happened to make people feel that way. Anyways...

The fun part out of the way, from a purely coaching perspective:

And before I get flamed by the Beard is literally RMK 2.0 crowd: Yes, he is talented, and I think he would probably win big at IU and make a FF in short order. BUT:

He has not IMO, and this is proven by the record whether anyone wants to admit it or not, warranted the weird obsession with him. He was 59-48 in the Big12. He got fired 8 games into the season, and Rodney Fn Terry proceeded to coach the team to 29-9, 2nd place in B12, B12T championship, and an Elite Eight-- Texas didn't exactly implode after Beard got fired. And Terry has shown he is at best an average coach-- Texas was simply loaded in 2022 (credit to Beard's roster construction).

His last two seasons at TT were 18-13 and 18-11 respectively. He had a nice 2 year run at TT, and he has improved Ole Miss who is firmly in the middle of the pack in the SEC, which is expected IMO if you are a good coach regardless of "resources"--  not that Ole Miss is some poor backwater school. Is he a slam dunk? Maybe? Likely? I imagine we will find out soon enough, but probably not at IU. If Fitzgerald was reportedly a no by Whitten, I have a hard time believing Beard would be a yes.

TL;DR: I will trust Dolson to vet properly regardless the outcome since it is his head too, I doubt he gets considered at all, but Beard would win a bunch of games here.

Using the poll you referenced…there multiple hires that would fracture the fan base a lot more than Chris Beard…

Come on down Brownell. I’m telling you, Brownell is in the running and if he gets hired, we’re going to wish Beard was our coach.

If it Steven’s I have a feeling Dolson has known it for a long time. The fiascos 4 years ago turned out to be a disaster. I just don’t see Dolson going blind into it this year. He wanted Woodson gone last year. So he’s had a year to plan this and work on the guy he wants. Just makes me believe he knew who we were getting long before this all started a month ago.

My hope is that two weeks after the Celtics won the NBA Championship, Dolson called Stevens and said "Congratulations on winning the NBA Championship!  Now, are you ready to win an NCAA Championship because the IU job is going to be open next year".

I'm not the world's biggest fan of Cronin, but i could see Dolson really liking him given the basketball environment he was part of at IU.  I could also see Cronin bringing Fife back as an assistant.  I think the two of them would get along very well.

Maybe his brings Lewis down from Muncie? Top assistant. IU guy can definitely help recruit the state he hasn’t been exactly killing it a Ball State as the HC .
