That’s exactly what I was saying.  No set practice schedule.  He would have impromptu practices too.

I’ve heard at least one of the players talk about that on a podcast. He said you could never make plans, because you never knew when practice would be.

Well, the guy never played if I am remembering correctly.....degree in accounting...its hard to identify with players and other coaches IMO if you have not played at the same level

I beg to differ....Marines use this tactic and it acclimates young people to learn how to adapt....very proven technique....Marines did this kind of **** all the time and while frustrating at the time, makes perfect sense when you hear the science behind it...

If he did storm out and quite, F him. Pay these MEN too much to deal with baby attitudes. They want the money, then prepare for everything that comes along with it. Period. Maybe they should throw an "expectations" class at them before they receive the NIL money so they can know what to expect....

I spoke to a player that played for Crean a couple years after he graduated at a party.  The ex-player was very intoxicated at the time and you would not believe some of the stories he told me and my buddies about Crean.  He wasn't the perfectly behaved person and coach he tries to make himself out to be.

It’s May or Stevens for me or bust,  then you might as well take a chance on McCollum or someone like Kevin Young and let them try to create their own history here with all the resources at their disposal.
I’m frankly pretty impressed with Kevin Young, but I’d rather stay away from someone that’s had a long tenure at some other college and growing long in the tooth.

Probably effective for marines preparing for life/death scenarios and I no doubt believe that Crean read it and applied it.

For college kids playing basketball?  It’s a stretch that was universally disliked by the team.

Bielfeldt basically confirmed this:

Beilein is known by his players for planning out every minor detail in the team’s practice and workout schedule a month in advance, so when Bielfeldt gets a text from Crean saying the team has the day off just a few hours before practice, the difference between the two can be glaring.

“It’s very bizarre and different to compare the two coaching styles,” Bielfeldt said. “Coach Crean’s definitely a more passionate guy, while Beilein is more of a, I’ll use the word ‘Mastermind,’ sitting back and trying to see the big picture and weigh things out.”

“Coach Beilein is more of a teacher,” Bielfeldt said. “He’ll want you to be able to sit in the film room for an hour and be able to describe every cut and name it something so everyone has their own language, whereas (Indiana coach Tom) Crean will kind of just throw you out on the floor and have you run stuff and kind of coach while he goes.”

I know that I couldn't stand Richard Pitino at Minnesota....but I am so intrigued by him as a potential candidate?

I feel given the right situation and resources, he could be just as effective as a Rick, Sr. or Donovan.  I keep telling myself I know we can do better.  Top 3 or 4 if we miss on #1 and #2?
