Some think it’s going to take a process and the first step is getting a coach to stabilize a middle of the pack mediocre or under (I think IU is 25-30 games under .500 in the B1G over the last 9 years) B1G team. Maybe it’s good to hire a coach like Cronin first to stabilize and then worrying about games past the sweet 16 later I'm sorry. I have no interest in this. 5 minutes ago, Hoosierfan2017 said: Would making the tournament every year not be a significant upgrade over what we’ve dealt with the past 15+ years? It’s not the end goal, but getting in every year certainly gives you a much better shot at winning the title. That's great. We are Iowa/Minnesota now.

The problem is, some of us older guys have lost patience and have little interest in “stabilize.” And I think, given both the current landscape of college basketball and the resources at our disposal, it’s OK to expect more than that. Quite frankly, I want to be sitting here 6 or 7 years from now and be thought of as one of the 6 best programs in college basketball, because that’s absolutely what we’re capable of. I get it that May might say no. But, look for the potential home runs from the other names on the list. Cronin has already proven over the course of 21 years to NOT be a home run. I’ll play devils advocate with you. Do we really think Cincinnati is a team that should make the 2nd weekend routinely? I don’t. I remember them getting beat early under multiple coaches. UCLA he made a run but it’s also the NIL era and they do not have the boosters who care enough to bankroll them. So he is at a disadvantage there. You also mention 21 years of experience he is only 53 years old with 21 years of experience that’s someone who has had to grind to make it to the upper echelon. I’m not going to hold it against him that he wasn’t making runs to the final four as a 32 year old. He could also be entering his prime. The last 3 years have seen him make the sweet 16 twice and a Final Four. I’ll weight what he has done at a similar school with lesser NIL than what he did at UC and in his early 30’s. He could raise a banner for IU. PartyintheVillas, thebigweave, CSP and 5 others 6 1 1

If we could realistically get the top coach in the sport, which Id argue is Nate Oats, then yeah we’d all want that. I think what you’re seeing is that some of us realize many of these coaches won’t be realistic for us. Example: we’d be happy with Beard but he’s controversial and apparently our current admin wouldn’t even consider him. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong but when you’re looking at the top of the sport, who is actually realistic hire that puts us in that top 6-7 you mention?

Maybe he has a special place in his heart for us but that seems unlikely, similar to the Brad Stevens stuff. (Although Brad’s still in until he’s out)

Can he not recruit or is he not recruiting because he plans on being somewhere else next year Sent from my Pixel 6a using Tapatalk When he was an assistant for Huggins at UC he was known for his recruiting and recruiting connections. Regularly recruited NYC and East coast. But that was pretty long ago. Just my opinion, but I think UCLA is still a strong brand name on the West coast and helps with their recruiting. But I could be way off base. He will get players. But how great his recruiting might be in Indiana, I have no clue.

If Michigan can go from 8-24 to a 4 seed in the tournament in one year, it’s not unreasonable to expect Indiana to skip steps as well. I mean, guys my age especially lived what we’re capable of, and the fact that we’ve stayed around for 25-30 of mediocrity is pretty remarkable. But I think it’s time for IU to stop taking that remarkable support for granted. BtownStrength, tkbbn, Uspshoosier and 6 others 9
