I hoped you laughed in that players face. He’s not really close to Stevens if he thinks that’s true. If you don’t think we had serious talks with Stevens last time and again in the last two months then not much I can say to change your mind. But that player is flat out wrong.

Not having any inside information here...but somewhat able to intuit truth by verification versus falsehood by the lack thereof...

Chris has good standing imho.

Taking a step back...Kentuckysx has a good point about Stevens making decisions with one foot out the door.  Since one may assume that Stevens is a professional and his word is good...imho he would be talking fairly openly with management to let them know that he is thinking of stepping out.  They also would be talking turkey and laying out what might just be best for selling the franchise vs continuing without Stevens.  They are all grownups and deadly serious.

With that assumption...what Chris says is, to us, a rumor.  But I lean toward it.

On the other hand...I will believe it when I see it.

Hopefully soon.

Go Chris...go!

And may Brad Stevens come riding over the yonder hill on a stately and beautiful buffalo to save us all from these nightmares.

I get that Stevens is a long shot, but people are discounting the money piece. I understand rich guys that aren't motivated by money. I deal with them every day. 40 million across say 6 years probably does not move the needle for someone in Brads tax bracket. 100 Million does not just get you in the door, that gets you serious consideration. Throw in the personal and family connections, and the near 9 figures can push something like this over the top. Just my opinion.

TL;DR: The money also matters. Anyone thinking that BS won't take a very long and very serious look at that deal (I am assuming Yeags is accurate), is missing a serious factor.

It is a boat load of money.

The counterpoint is obviously if the new owners decide they can't lose him and offer a minority stake in the Boston Celtics.

$100M/10 yrs vs. another very lucrative contract and like 1% of the Celtics could make the calculation trickier.

That said, is the decision strictly financial? As you said, based on his current tax bracket, probably not.

If you've always dreamed of doing something and can get paid a boat load of cash to do it, you'll probably consider it.

May end up deciding differently, but doesn't mean you didn't think hard on it in the end.

Yep, I am not in any way saying the Celts cant make a more lucrative offer. But if 92m over 10 is the offer, that would put him in the top-10 in the NBA, and #2 in CBB. It is not insignificant even for someone who is already wealthy. Adding his personal connections makes it silly to just hand wave the possibility.

i could be misremembering but anyone remember 4 years ago when we were looking for a coach a recruit’s dad said IU was looking to hire Stevens and his son was a top priority.  My remembering also tells me the recruit was Braden Smith. Anyone else remember

Who is #1 in CBB?

I am going to put my bet on Jerry’s info. Announcement will come before the start of the tournament and we have our guy.

I guess we need to take a poll to determine who our guy is huh?

The only person we could hire before the tournament is Stevens. The only coach I remember accepting another job before their season ended was Bill Frieder. Their AD told him to leave right away and didn't let him coach in the tournament and they went on to win the championship.

If you want to listen to “insiders” on this site or others that have told us in the past Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan  were done deals go ahead. Not only were they wrong on Stevens and Donovan but they had little to no knowledge of who the eventual hire would be til it was making the rounds in social media.
