It’s to be a national title contender year in and year out. That list is very short. I do think May could be that type of coach. Got to crawl before you can walk. Get someone who can have consecutive winning conference records first and get the program actually competing for conference titles and worry about wining national titles later. I’m a big you can’t skip steps guy. IU is in the middle and just another college basketball team (on court results wise). They just need a solid college coach to get them in the conversation again. Don’t expect anyone to like that take or agree with it just my opinion lillurk, Iufan93, T White and 6 others 9

Papacap Posted February 8 Posted February 8 For those who have said the longer time goes with no extension for May, the higher the chance we are looking at him seriously is true. If I’m Michigan, I’m locking him down if at all possible. lillurk, Iufan93 and Chris007 3

Don’t expect anyone to like that take or agree with it just my opinion I understand what you are saying. However with the portal and the NIL IU has at its disposal, we have to get a top end coach who can win a national title. Not that we will get it immediately. But we should be a tournament team next year no matter who our coach is. That’s the first step. Next step we are competing for a Big Ten title which means we have a chance at a final four. Gates to me is a guy who wins enough to not get fired but doesn’t make us a threat annually. And we are adrift for another decade.

If I’m Michigan, I’m locking him down if at all possible. As a Michigan football fan I’m on their boards regularly. I don’t think people fear him leaving because he is in year 1. However the MGoPodcast which should drop Sunday/Monday is going to be a good listen. The guy who owns the website/podcast got the last AD fired and has a lot of connections to get info. So interested in if he says anything. Stuhoo, thebigweave and Iufan93 3

I know he took Missouri to the tourney in year 1 and then had an awful year 2 and now in year 3 has Missouri top 15 in the NET with some massive wins. lillurk 1

OKHOOSIER Posted February 8 Posted February 8 I made the comment in the game thread about Michigan going up big and pissing away leads, but I do think that problem would have been materially diminished had Johnell been allowed to transfer. I still think Dusty would win gobs of games here. lillurk and Home Jersey 2
