I’m kind of surprised no one is mentioning Bob Huggins....I know the issues with him, but when I hear the Bruce Pearls and Scott Drew’s of the world through around for jobs, I think his name would as well.

Fantastic coach.  I would love him as coach.   I think no one is mentioning him because he got taken home, county roads.   He was born in Morgantown,  transferred and played for West Virginia.   I think he is home until retirement.

If it’s gonna be someone with P5 (or Big East) HC experience, here’s a list of names we’ve either dreamed on, mentioned, or otherwise discussed who fit the bill. Note this would eliminate the Fife, Gates, Shrewsberry cohort.

(as pointed out above it would technically eliminate Stevens but LOL)

“Almost no chance” tier: Stevens, Donovan, Wright, Bennett

Age, health, compliance concerns probably eliminate: Beilein, Kruger, Pearl, Huggins. Matta?

check the price/willingness to move: Oats, Beard, Mack, Drew

also mentioned but probably long-shots: Musselman, Enfield, Mike White (FL)

Which may be soon. He's 67 and looks like he's ... ahem... lived to the fullest.

Since you asked :)

Agree on your "no chance" list. So moving on...

Beilein & Matta seem the most likely- need to be vetted for ability and drive. I say proceed with extreme caution, but proceed. Any red flags should eliminate them, IU can't afford to find out Beliein has lost the fire in his belly 2 years down the road or have Matta tapping out because of his back after a couple of seasons. Either would be devastating.

I have stated before that I can't imagine why Drew would want to move, BUT fine with kicking the tires. Still he isn't a magician. Took a good while to get things rolling in Waco. IU should be a faster turn-around but not sure it's fair to expect a dramatic turn.

Similar feel on Beard & Mack. Sadly, IU doesn't offer much over current jobs without a lot of grunt work first to return the shine.

Oats is the most interesting to me for personal reasons and that he is young and has some results to evaluate. Seems like a winner on the trajectory for big things.

Except for the part where it was Mack that reached out to IU and not the other way around. That’s what makes that situation more interesting IMO.

I know this table is slightly out of date, but no way Chris Beard would leave Texas Tech with his current situation.

Sorry....but WHAT was Archie’s $250,000 bonus for in ‘18-19?  Maybe grades?

Yes, I LOVE Oats. Unfortunately he may not want to leave the SEC, just got an extension, Alabama has deep pockets...we can dream.

Dang looking at other boards, you guys sure don't stick up for little ole me. My poor little feelings are getting hurt. But on another note does anyone know what the athletic board does? There might be a chance they are meeting this week. ;-)

I wanna see you and IUWins0708 duke it out. Lay all your sources on the table and see who wins. :farting_smiley:

They talking smack over on Hoosier Sports Nation?

I’ll go over there and teach them a lesson. Maybe photoshop a picture of Brad on Kirkwood to really piss them off!

I'm just kidding as well. I read both sites, but this is the only one I have an account on. That site had me thinking Billy Donovan was looking at paint swatches for his new office last time around.

You mean he wasn't? I had a beautiful horse farm all picked out for his family till Fred hired Archie.

I think I can name 6 guys on that list that have less than 5% chance of becoming the next IU coach. At least two of them are IU guys

I'm starting to like the Musselman candidacy

Yeah I agree. Relatively young, very quick turnarounds at both stops, good on the transfer market but immediately a good recruiter of HSers at Arkansas, where that’s probably a better option than it is at Nevada. He employed Jordan Sperber, the Hoop Vision guy, at Nevada.

His pattern at both stops: massive improvement in year one from the recently established historical level of the program, then year two is another step up.

Someone mentioned that Keith Smart played for him, so bring him on as an assistant
