Fans really need to relax about McCollum potentially preferring Iowa over IU. He’s from Iowa City. Don’t overthink it.

Sort of. He was born in IA City but grew up and went to HS in Storm Lake in NW IA. It's 240 miles to IA City. The University of MN campus would be the same distance. The Nebraska campus would actually be closer to his hometown than Iowa. Same is true for NW MO ST, which is about 90 miles from Kansas City.

Kinda sad Iowa somehow has all these lower tier great coaches from that supposedly all want their crap job and we’ve got nobody in Indiana

I doubt those guys are fighting over it. They'll just take it if the money is right, etc etc. There are plethoras of good coaches with IU/Indiana ties, though.

I'd hire DeVries over McCollum too given the choice between either and assuming both were available and interested. Very rarely do schools get their top choice however.

I don’t think we’ll hire either…but I would agree with this

I'd be cool with McCollum and I'd completely understand anyone who would feel underwhelmed but I keep going back to UK and UofL for 2 reasons -
1 ) Their searches - both (from what was reported) went after the big fish hard, probably very similar to our lists and with equivalent offers to ours - no bites as far as I heard. Unfortunately, people are comfy where they are it seems
2 ) Those same resources level the playing field - both coaches jumped into those programs hitting the ground running - a lot of the problems a big move would cause can be mitigated with todays staff, transfer portal, and NIL. Find a coach that can coach and fill in their weaknesses with key staff. Structuring staff more like the NBA helps coaches just focus on what they do - coach (plus some recruiting but that's not like it use to be before you could hire Scouts/GM i.e. Zeller if that's what he ends up doing (love to see Hulls in that position too - think he'd be drawn to players McCollum would love).

Still would pee myself if Brad is it - but I knew the odds (very low imho - I absolutely think SD put in the work but it was gonna be a battle) and I love a meh floor but a super high ceiling (more then Collins or Brownell). Just my opinion but as I said - Huss, Schertz, McCollum, or Devries are those ceiling imho.

The key here is that you must have a coach who is open to structure. Woody has always seemed so egocentric/egomaniacal that he wouldn't take advantage of any such structure.

You need a coach who is well-organized and would thrive in such a structure and use it to his advantage.

How about a little misleading headline, lol

Iowa’s the place you go if you just want to coach basketball while having middling expectations without everything else that comes with being a coach at a major program. Fran has survived 15 years despite making the tournament only 7 times, winning 50.4% of is conference games, and never making it to the sweet 16. Sounds like McCollum just wants a job he can hide out and coach without being the center of attention. Nothing wrong with that, but this isn’t the job for him if that’s the case.

So Trilly is reporting that BM is already vetting Sisley and the other recruit we have coming in?

What’s next? Brad rumors to IU and then follow up with the random Coach rumor on that site.
