Popular Post Stuhoo Posted January 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 20, 2020 Going into their first year at IU, both Fitzner and our outstanding Joey Brunk were projected to be bigs who were limited defensively, weak rebounders, and having a specific offensive skill; Fitz as a stretch five, and Joey as a reasonable low post option. Only their mothers thought they could be complete players. Joey Brunk this year? Wow. A nice low post scorer. A rebounds per minute machine. A real team leader. Our best post defender. Joey Brunk is on his way to becoming a truly beloved Hoosier, as he leads us to the tournament this year and a top ten ranking next year. bigrod, ebridges24, Schreckbagger and 16 others 19 Quote

cthomas Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Glad to see this thread. I don't think Joey has been given proper credit for what he brings to the team. He is solid, durable, and gives consistently good effort. He has exceeded my expectations and I am really looking forward to seeing what he does next year after a year in the program. His influence on the young guys on the team going forward should not be underestimated either. To me, this is what culture building looks like. Ranger78, GloryDays, Str8Hoosiers and 4 others 7 Quote
HoosierAloha Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I’ll be the first to say I was wrong about him. I’m glad he’s a Hoosier!I believe it goes beyond his rebounding or low post scoring. I’ve seen Archie tear into him while he’s going to sit in the bench. When Brunk has re-entered the game he’s played with more energy and focus. He’s been great for TJD too, both in helping teach him and defending the bigger 5s in the conference. Looking forward to watching Brunk continue to ball this season and next. Brass Cannon Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I was always optimistic. The handful of realistic Butler fans I know said his problems were system. Glad they were right. Ranger78 1 Quote

Could help him come out of his shell a bit and be more vocal. And we will need that from him next season as he will likely be one of our 3 best players again. Rico Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Joey has been a warrior for us. Love what he has brought...except that FT shooting. But hey, everybody has a weakness, right? Quote
DChoosier Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Brunk has been a great addition. He has been a good match-up in a wider variety of games than I anticipated. Thought he would primarily provide minutes in “banger games” but he has been more versatile than that. Quote

killerbeezer Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Yep, I figured he was the second coming of Jobe or Priller based on what I read. Quote

HoosierAloha Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 He's not flashy but he does yeoman's work. Where would we be if he didn't transfer here? I hate to think of throwing a freshman TJD to the wolves against the bigger and more physical bigs in the Big Ten. Class of '66 Old Fart and IUc2016 2 Quote
IUc2016 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 I really wish we had Brunk all four years. He would have been that player that all the other BIG teams hated and complained that he was here for 10 years. But yes, I'll take two years of Joey freaking Brunk. thebigweave, Class of '66 Old Fart, taco corp and 1 other 4 Quote
rcbowla Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 I can't recall a player moving from my "why is he playing so much?" list to "never take him out" list as fast as Brunk has. He has potential to be one of my top 20 or so favorites of all-time and that wasn't even conceivable for me at the beginning of the season.Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk Str8Hoosiers and southsidehoosier 2 Quote
