I really hope this is our attitude. This season didn't turn out like anyone expected. But it doesn't have to end with such a bitter taste. If we were to go with this damn thing, let's be honest....that is progress! It's not exactly the progress we want (half the fan base believes we should have won the Big Ten and been in the final four this year). But, you can look up a ton of examples of high level coaches who's first few years didn't include anything impressive. No postseason in year 1 --> NIT champs in year 2 is progress! And yes, I understand the challenges ahead in year 3, but I sincerely hope this group takes the opportunity they have and makes the most of it now. We very well could be looking back in 7 or 8 years like Michigan or Virginia or Villanova fans are right now and thinking, "man remember the struggles we had in Archie's first few years? We were pissed about being in the NIT but look at us now!" If we are going to be the program we should be and truly get back among the blue bloods, it won't be built in 2 seasons. Hoosierfan222 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 (edited) It’s more practice time, why would you not accept the bid? So fans who don’t want to watch can’t complain about not wanting to watch? Should bad teams at the end of the year start forfeiting games because “they don’t matter”? Popular Post Hoosier116 Posted March 18, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2019 As far as I view things, you play with the hand your dealt. We get the NIT and I’m a Hoosier fan through and through. It’s ok to be disappointed with the season but we can’t do anything about it now. I’ll always support my Hoosiers so I’m all in for a run in the NIT. And if they bow out early, I’ll be around next october too. Fandom isn’t easy and always rewarding. We march on. Irrelevant if IU wanted to decline the NIT or not it’s not their choice. No team can decline an invite to the NIT now. Ncaa owns and runs the NIT now. They have their own committee of former coaches(Keady is one) and a chairman that selects the field. Fans might not like it but that’s how it is for now on Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Rico, JaybobHoosier and thebigweave 2 1 Quote

Some people sound like this is indiana of 1993 that is just to darn good for the nit. We have missed the ncaa 4 of the last 6 years. We are currently not a good program. Hopefully it changes but if people think we are too good for the nit simply do not watch then.Sent from my SM-J700T using Tapatalk JaybobHoosier, Hoosier116 and theriverpilot 3 Quote

JaybobHoosier Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 I get people being frustrated for not making the NCAA Tournament, I am one of them, but we should still support the team. Archie is only in year two, dealt with countless injuries, player issues, and players who were recruited for a completely different system. Next year has a lot of question marks, but there should be an NCCA Tournament bid.Anyway, can’t wait to watch the Hoosiers tomorrow, and as long as they show up, should win their first two rounds! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners I'm with you Jaybob a true Hoosier fan that will back my team no matter what. A disappointing season no doubt, due some self-inflicted factors, and some not. But this is where there they are. Plenty of motivating factors here - JMo can continue his rise up the Hoosier history books in scoring, rebounding, and blocks - potentially could be top 25-10-10 in those three categories (feed the big fella). Green should come in confident after the OSU game, and motivated with three more home wins, a chance to play in New York. Perhaps Fitzner will break out of the pressure cooker of B!G basketball and display the shooting prowess he was touted to have. McRoberts, if healthy, can play his disruptive defensive game on unsuspecting opponents. Romeo should be able to take over at will in this first game and subsequent games. DeRon shouldn't be matched up against 300 pound behemoths in the paint. Smith, if he is patient and lets the game come to him, could be a matchup problem in this first game. I would imagine Rob and Al would match up with any guards in theses first few games. I am looking forward to watching the game tomorrow, and hopefully making a trip to AH for a second game. Come on HN, now that the disappointment of not making the NCAA has come (and gone) lets get behind the team all the way to MSG. JVIU98, indianaranger, ray and 5 others 8 Quote

He has declared for the draft and will not participate in the NIT. My guess is they won't get past Providence, since Gafford won't be participating. I know there's a strong argument that players aren't treated fairly (a lot of people will be earning money while we watch these kids entertain for "free"), but should a player who signed a formal contract (a legally binding agreement) to play basketball in exchange for a free education be allowed to leave the team prematurely? I can't say I blame him, necessarily, but this seems to go against the contract which was signed. Perhaps he's dropping out of school (before the semester ends), so this negates the legally binding agreement? Perhaps the school and coaches must allow him to bow out early (which I know the coach supports his decision)? Anyone know the rules in this matter? I understand the risk of injury with each game, and I know I wouldn't want to lose out on a chance for million dollar carrots dangling before my eyes, but without injury he could also increase his draft stock (although, likely less via the NIT). I can't say I blame him, but still... Quote
