That is a contribution, whether it’s against central Arkansas or against any B1G team. We are gonna need the young guys on the road in the near future especially when Morgan or Davis get in foul trouble. Moore had a decent showing at PSU and Jake tonight. Reps in game flow are the only thing that’s gonna help those two. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Whether they were tired or not allowed him to do what he did. Every kid on every college team can put points on the board when defense is bad. There's a reason he hasn't played much yet. And when he does from this point forward this season, it'll be spot minutes. I don't disagree with your comment about their needing game reps, but Moore will never be a heavy contributor. His minutes will be north of what Priller got, but he's just not a very good player. Decent showing at PSU be damned. Forrester has more potential, but don't let late minutes against an overmatched and fatigued 4-6 team with a Sagarin rating of 262 fool you into thinking his contribution tonight had any meaning. thebigweave, woodenshoemanHoosierfan and jonz44 3 Quote
cthomas Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 In all my years of watching IU basketball, I've never seen one as banged up as this. I'm not sure I've ever seen concussion issues. Unfortunately, I don't think we will see this team reach the potential it had when practice began in October. Quote

Did he get up and seem to walk off okay? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Not only did he walk off okay, but he seemed to not want to leave the bench...much less the court. That doesn't mean anything at all, but you asked if he walked off okay. That said, apparently concussions can keep you out for five weeks or longer (based on Race Thompson's absence). Any student athlete who shows signs or symptoms of head trauma must be thoroughly evaluated by the team's physician before clearance to practice or play. Phinisee put his hand to his head like we all have after smacking ourselves against a floor or other object. Because of this (this is a sign or symptom based on NCAA guidelines for concussion protocol), he had to be removed from the game and now he must await clearance. I'm not too confident based on how long IU's staff has kept Race out and after hearing Archie's "pessimistic" post-game comments, but Archie likely only said what he did because they won't (can't) rush anyone back for fear of it being more serious than they realize. But....I know nothing...and that might be because I may have suffered many concussions before too (considering I can recall several times in my life when I placed my hand on my head because it hurt). I hope it's nothing more than the team being careful...and hopefully Archie just mentioned a worst-case scenario because he (and the staff) are still in the dark at this early stage. Fingers crossed. Brass Cannon Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Some really good play from Al, Green, Smith and a few others. Starting to believe we won’t regress next year. Hopefully the supporting cast can keep playing this well and Phinisee can be back soon. Shouldn’t need him for 2 weeks Quote
JHoosier914 Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 It might have been stated, but I saw Cent. Arkansas’ PPP was a staggering 0.7 PPP!!! Anyone know where the stats are kept to see if that’s our lowest allowed this season? Edit: this might just be the second half PPP, because as I was calculating it based off a formula I found online, I got something slightly higher.. Going up against better players than what Central Arkansas has in practice every day should certainly be helping them. Game time is only part of the equation. Yes it is only part but its a big part. That was my experience when I played basketball or any other sport for that matter. Yes, you hone skills and such during practice, but nothing ever compared to the in game experience to me. Quote

There is no fooling here, Jake has potential. However, I do believe that part of the reason that we have not seen much of Jake recently is due to the fact that our last 4 games (besides last night) (back to the Duke game, which Jake scored 2 pts) have been decided by one possession, where you aren't gonna take out your starters or take a chance playing the end of the bench unless its absolutely necessary. Look, I know he is not a Romeo level contributor, not many are! I'm just saying that he needs some time within the flow of the game to get experience for when we may need him and that is a real possibility on the road in the B1G. How many times over the last couple of years has JMO and/or Davis been in foul trouble early in the game? To add to that, how many games this year has Fitz been a non-factor in a game? If Jake or even Moore can come in to a game in those situations, provide energy, absorb some fouls, play half way recognizable defense, then its a contribution to the team. Last night, he came in was fired up, scored 8 pts, 2 rebs, 1 blk, and 1 to. Was it trash time, yes, did it matter, no, but he came in determined, played hard, and did well. Quote

True, but he didn't get "kneed"; he ran into a knee that wasn't moving toward him. He'll go through protocol and maybe miss the Jax St game, but I strongly suspect that he will be just fine and cleared very soon. Napleshoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart, thebigweave and 1 other 4 Quote

Saying we weren’t prepared insinuates the players didn’t know what to do. They knew what to do. They just didn’t bring it out the gate at that end of the floor. It was a pretty shallow hole we dug. They hit two shots in a row and started the game 8-10. Most were jump shots. If a team does that and we are tied 19-19 before we take off I am fine with that. It is unsustainable imo. As shown last night. I agree we need to play better defensively out of the gate, but I was definitely happy it didn’t effect us at the other end with a dead crowd. If there was anything to “nitpick” it was that we came out flat for the 6th or so game in a row. Not sure why we get off to slow starts but it will inevitably cost us (especially on the road) at some point. Quote

Duke didn’t wake up against Princeton until the 8 min mark when they took their first lead of the game. Duke did the same thing against Army. K is the best coach in the game today and I wouldn’t call his teams unprepared to start the game since they started slow. I don’t know the answer. Maybe human nature has 18 years kids over look weaker opponents, maybe they think they can turn the off switch on anytime they want. Maybe some just need to get in the flow of a game to get going. Maybe it is on the coaching staff and they are unprepared (I do t think this is the case). I would love for IU to start out each game like world beaters but I don’t think that will be the case. One thing we can agree on is I would rather start slow but be a team that can finish. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app mdn82, Class of '66 Old Fart, thebigweave and 3 others 6 Quote
Chips&Dipo Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 They weren't bringing the energy to start the game, but it is also Central Arkansas on December 20th. After they woke up (and some words from Archie) they brought the energy and cruised to a victory and gave some of the younger bench players some experience. Hope Rob is okay! Quote

Last night showed the jump that I’ve expected to see from Devonte all year and I believe he can keep this up throughout conference play. Thinking it’s more of him understanding that he can still be the guy this year as long as he can keep the flashiness in check. However, the behind the back attempt to De’Ron did not make Archie happy lolSent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app reconmkd, Hutch89, Str8Hoosiers and 3 others 6 Quote
