Popular Post poppedcolla Posted September 11, 2018 Popular Post Posted September 11, 2018 Jeff Goodman ranking Indiana at 20 for the preseason. https://watchstadium.com/news/jeff-goodmans-2018-19-college-basketball-preseason-top-25-rankings-09-10-2018/ Last season: 16-15, 9-9 in Big Ten Archie Miller got his guy when he kept Romeo Langford in-state. The Hoosiers became nationally relevant that day as well. Langford is a prolific scorer and will team with Juwan Morgan to give the Hoosiers a couple of all-league guys. De’Ron Davis will help up front, but the key for IU will ultimately be point guard play. Ultimately, I’m betting on the duo of Miller and Langford. He can become a much better facilitator, but the catch with that is that last year he was sharing the ball with Mathias, VEdwards, and PJ Thompson, all knockdown 3pt shooters, and Haas at the rim. His options are so much less skilled this year. If some true unknows don't develop into legitimate scoring threats, Carsen Edwards could end up with a season like Talor Battle, DJ Newbill, or Tim Frazier when they were the only gunslingers on mediocre Penn State teams. Purdue will defend with Painter as coach (I think), but if either Edwards or Haarms misses significant time they are really screwed vis a vis depth. Let's put it this way - if Romeo or Juwan missed time we would likely insert a guy likeJerome Hunter, Al Durham, or Fitzner into the starting lineup. If Edwards or Haarms isn't in the game, Purdue is very low on options. They only have three guards on their roster that can even contemplate playing with the ball in their hands and only one non walk-on big who has ever seen the court in a D1 game. Is anyone else excited over Evan Fitzner? I wouldn't be surprised if he started. What if we had Juwan, McRoberts and Fitzner on the court with Devonte and Langford? That'd be a huge starting lineup, like Kentucky big. According to ESPN, Fitzner has played 1898 minutes of NCAA basketball, while Davis has only played 753. That's 2.52 times more time. Plus Fitzner has a 3 point shot at +40% beyond the arc the past 3 seasons at Saint Mary's, and the other 4 that I mentioned above also have +25% 3 pointers (except for Langford). IDK, from the stats and experience standpoint I'd expect Fitzner to play more than Davis. WayneFleekHoosier, thebigweave and mamasa 3 Quote

How long he plays will likely depend more on his D then his offense, IMO. thebigweave, Stromboli, MemphisHoosier and 3 others 6 Quote

Plus you'd probably want 3 guards rather than 2 F's and a center since Miller passes it around the arc a lot before scoring and is into transition offense (better with guards). Devonte, Langford, McRoberts, Morgan, and Fitzner is 3 seniors, 1 junior and a freshman. That's an old roster, probably would be the oldest in the big ten. Just depends on what defense you're going for I guess. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

But I would be shocked if he is starting over Smith. McBob brings steadiness. He is a perfect off the bench player. His experience off of the bench would be a fantastic tool to have. Smith is our third best player. He has had a great summer. Finished the year strong. He just gives us more than what McBob can. McBob definitely has a role on this team but it's as one of the first off the bench to bring energy and defense. Hopefully, he'll have improve his shot and has the confidence in taking them when open. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app thebigweave, jonz44, taco corp and 1 other 4 Quote
Brass Cannon Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Agreed Fitz should start Mcroberts should definitely get time off the bench. I’d say Green, Langford, Smith or Hunter, Morgan, Fitzner. looking at Derons advanced statistics he wasn’t as ineffective on defense as I remembered Could see him being a force off the bench Him, Al, Smith or Hunter and Mcroberts could be a stellar core off the bench. jhoosier, Stromboli and thebigweave 3 Quote
