pumpfake Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 Regarding Vitale: Dickie and most everyone in the basketball world seems to forget or overlook the fact that Saint Jim Valvano was a dirty cheater whose team was put on probation under his watch. I wonder how angelic Bob Knight will be to Vitale if he passes first (he'll probably want the name of the state changed to Knightolina or something like that). My thoughts exactly every time they have their ESPY show and everyone fawns over Jimmy V! I said this in a comment yesterday. The media is so freaking hypocritical and uses their forum to gloss over what they want to and expose what they want to! They speak of the "passion" of UK fans and totally ignore the corruption of that program through the years! Point shaving, racism, envelopes of cash to recruits. John Wooden was a god and UCLA was a dynasty... in great part due to the fact Sam Gilbert was buying the best players in the country for him! Rick Pitino was an out of this world coach and master motivator... with an assistant coach throwing stripper parties a block or so away for recruits and another giving bribes for recruits! It's kinda easy to be awesome when it's not a level playing field. CR3AMnCR1MS0N, IUsafety, Class of '66 Old Fart and 14 others 17 Quote

He will defend his buddies/idols to his grave. That includes Knight, Coach K, Cal, Boeheim, Pitino to name a few. It's crazy how on the telecast last night he was so strong in his view that Sean Miller should never coach again with just the allegation surfacing and then bats a blind eye to all the crap that has come out at Lville. Also, raves about the top three recruits coming to Duke with a straight face. His act is so predictable and tired. jonz44, MikeRoberts, Deserthoozier and 3 others 6 Quote

It's one thing to speculate about this stuff on a message board but a completely different thing to do it on a national broadcast. Vitale was funny and fresh about thirty years ago and actually did some analysis. Now he is a caricature of himself and it's old and tired. BGleas, Deserthoozier, pumpfake and 1 other 4 Quote

I think some of the younger fans would be very surprised to see how DV was back on the ABC college basketball telecasts (with Keith Jackson). He was actually quite good. But as you say, he developed his Dicko the Clown act and even that has long since grown stale. cthomas, IUsafety, ThompsonHoosier and 6 others 9 Quote

I find it amusing the NCAA is in the predicament and my dislike goes all the way back to Brand and our punishment. Their selective enforcement has caught up to them during March Madness; the best moment to shine light on their organization. coonhounds, Deserthoozier, pumpfake and 2 others 5 Quote
wirenuts Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 Saw somewhere that miller would get paid more for being fired with cause than if he was fired without cause. Seems like UA knew what was going on, if it was going on. How could a coach be so dumb to discuss payment on the phone? I'm sure that most universities have handlersSent from my LG-H872 using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

That's more telling than anything to me. And Ayton and his family just have absolutely nothing to lose, so why not deny? Play well, increase your draft stock, and hope nothing more comes of it until the tournament is over. coonhounds 1 Quote

AKHoosier Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 I'm just so grateful we didn't hire Sean Miller last year, or in 2008 I guess. The last 2 times we've had vacancies, he was at or near the top of my wish list. Could you imagine if we hired him last year and all this stuff comes to light? It'd be like Sampson all over again. Hoosierfan2017 Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 I have no problem with Sean Miller. I mean, John Wooden cheated like crazy and he's beloved. College sports have always been like this. Quote

My issue with paying players (any players in any sport) is that only the major sports in the Big 5 conferences would be able to do so... most of the minor sports are money losers, and for mid-major schools, even basketball/football barely break even. Imagine the fun when people start suing via Title IX and similar because male athletes in BB/FB get paid and the ladies' tidily-wink team does not. Slippery slope, my friend.
