2018 General Recruiting Thread

Sounds like he noticed and should have something to say very soon.

Yeah every Indiana recruiting outlet has reported for the last month that he would sit down with his family after July and then possibly take visits if needed before deciding by end of August. Sounds like he might not need the visits. Ohio st and IU look to be in good shape

For some reason the staff is recruiting him to play center at 6'8. Some seem to think he is 6'10 and forget he is only 6'8.

I think Devoe is the PG we want but he is a Florida lean, IMO the staff think Phinisee and Akinjo is the same.

This is still very confusing to me and I've read through today's posts a couple of times. Does the staff think he's grown two inches? How can they get a measurable like that blatantly wrong? Like everyone has said, I don't understand our continued interest. Race Thompson can play the same role and is a better player.

I don't understand it either. They only thing I can think of is they think he might still be growing or something like that.

I'm thinking that's got to be part of it. Especially with the bigs, it wouldn't surprise me if lots of these promising talents got xrays every couple of years just to see if the growth plates are still open.

This is my thought. A lot of times docs feel pretty confident about a kid who still has some growing in him. That could be the case here and might suggest they think he is going to be more valuable in a couple of years.

I wouldn't be overly stoked about it but a class of Hunter, Anderson, Phiniesse, and Forrester would be solid.  That's three top 100 recruits with Forrester around 150 with 1/2 of them instate and the other two from the area.  That should be a top 10 class and a solid foundation moving forward.  Throw Langford in and it's a top 5ish class.

If the staff is expecting attrition in 2018 freeing up spots for the 2019 class I could see taking Forrester.  In 2019 we need a big that will replace Davis. I would also like to see us have a stable of versatile bigs.  I don't want to ever see us playing a Hartman or Robinson at the 5 again.

Morgan (110)

Davis (41), Jones (74), Green (241)

Smith (75), Thompson (99), Moore (152), Durham (229)

Langford (6), Hunter (61), Anderson (86), Phinisee (96), Forrester (156)

Star: Langford

Solid foundation: 8/13 top 100 recruits, 11/13 top 150ish recruits

That's a team that, on paper, should be able to compete in the B1G and a run in the tourney.

Nice summary and perspective.  It's true that we should be thrilled already, and still have a very real shot at having the best class we've had in years.  In Archie's FIRST class.

Side note.  Conceptually, it's easier for me to call Race a 2018 Recruit.  That's when he'll play, and those are the guys he'll be graduating with.

Some Hot Takes:

Justin Smith will graduate with over 1200 points, and about 12 clutch plays/thunderous dunks that will become part of Hoosier Lore.

Jerome Hunter will develop into a key cog on a team that sees a deep tourney run.

In five years Kentucky will be begging us to do a home-home series.

Honestly a lot better initial class than I thought. That is a top 20 class out the gate while getting a couple of kids from instate. No star power for this class if it went that way, but solid foundation. Add Romeo and it is a stellar class.

Agree completely. It's a great class, but it would be inflated by the number of recruits we get. In reality it's likely a top 20ish class. Really missing the star power without a Romeo or Garland, but I'm hopeful Hunter can become that guy for us in a couple years.
