BtownStrength Posted April 22, 2017 Posted April 22, 2017 Think what you will but his entire bio on their website is all about football. He might have dabbled in basketball from time to time but he is a football guy through and through.http://www.ignitionapg.com/index.php/about-ignition/our-staff-2/clif-marshall/ Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app It is fair to question. It does appear he has more more work with football players than other sports. But does that make him a "football guy"? I don't really know that answer. I like the guy's experience. And with CAM's other staff hires being as good as promised, his judgment seems very solid. I stand by the opinion that any quality S&C coach knows enough in terms of biomechanics and sport science to train different sports, regardless of background. S&C coaches have to adapt to the individual needs of every player on the team, which IMO is much harder than learning to coach a new sport for strength. I am not worried about Marshall's competence. My only worry is if a pro sports opportunity comes along...but if that happens it will be because he is kicking @$$ here! waitingon6 1 Quote

Popular Post mdn82 Posted April 22, 2017 Popular Post Posted April 22, 2017 I am confused though. Why are we stereotyping football player workouts vs basketball players? Not all football players work out the same. DB's and wideouts have similar drills for speed, strength, and agility. Lineman have different strength exercises. Not all basketball players work out the same. Because no two players are the same. There are basic workouts players will do. Then there are player specific plans. Not sure what all of this is about in the least.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app thebigweave, ramadden13, BGleas and 6 others 9 Quote

Also I'm not sure if anyone has already posted it but here's his comments on taking the job. Great hire by Archie! Marshall looks like he comes in with quite the pedigree, and he rounds out a really phenomenal staff. As an added bonus it appears we've hired someone who is qualified to be both the athletic trainer and team chaplain. ALASKA HOOSIER, lillurk, waitingon6 and 7 others 10 Quote

The guy has an almost unbelievable amount of diversity and experience in training. This is a very good thing. This is his field of study, so he probably knows the differences and what each individual athlete requires. He's trained at both the college and professional level, including training athletes in the NBA. He worked with Archie at Dayton. Frankly, I have no idea why anyone would look at his resume and see a concern...because he has too diverse of a resume? "Marshall comes to IU after spending 10 years as the Performance Director at Ignition Athletics Performance Group where he was responsible for the design and implementation of both the strength and speed programs. Ignition is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio and has trained more than 10,000 athletes, including standouts in the NBA, MLB, MLS, and the NFL. Marshall has also worked as a consultant to some of the top NCAA athletic programs in the country including the men’s basketball programs at Xavier and Dayton. Since 2014, Marshall has trained the Musketeers by leading a 10-week summer speed and agility program through a partnership with Ignition. In the summer of 2015, he implemented the Dayton Flyers strength and conditioning program for Archie Miller’s club that won the Atlantic 10 Championship." thebigweave, Jeff_Boy_Ardee, MemphisHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote
