Ryno6284 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I would love to have "The Birdman" or Greg Tonagel! Call that a day! Quote
AKHoosier Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I'm so getting my hopes up on John Groce like I did with Billy Donovan, which probably means we'll get left at the altar all over again. He would be such a solid addition to the staff for hopefully a few years to lock up the Midwest. All eyes to the Akron job now, hopefully they take a chance on an up-and-comer rather than Groce. Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Don't think you'll be seeing either of the latter mentionedMeaning no Elston or Anderson? Not upset one bit by Anderson.Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I don't think Jackson will come back. He left Kansas to have a job to spend more time with his children. Other than that there is nothing. I don't see why people are getting their hopes up again. Didn't we learn anything from the Billy D situation. FWIW former head coaches are more likely to get another job staying the course of waiting around instead of jumping in as an assistant. Not too many guys at a high level program like Illinois get fired then become an assistant and get another good job. He will either take a opening now or wait until next year. Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app woodenshoemanHoosierfan, Baltimore Hoosier and Tom White 3 Quote

BGleas Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I don't understand this sentiment that Flint and Groce are recruiters, and Archie would need to add an X's and O's guy. Flint has been a head coach for close to 20 years and Groce for 7. Especially Flint, but neither gets that long as an HC just being a recruiter. VO5, Stuhoo, ramadden13 and 2 others 5 Quote

He'll be our main recruiter Quote

I don't know if all teams do it this way but often the assistant coaches are responsible for scouting and developing the game plan for upcoming opponents. These rotate among the assistants so you need to have a staff that has both a knowledge of the game as well as an ability to recruit. thebigweave and BGleas 2 Quote
HoosierRich Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Not a big Groce fan on a personal level. He taught at my high school in the 90's and was asked to resign because he was sleeping with a student (a senior who was 18....so not illegal, but highly unethical) Quote
